Post-Appointment Class of 2027 Hangout: PTR, I-Day, What To Bring, Leave Periods…all that endless new stuff

Curious - when do plebes fill out their questionnaire for national security position (SF 86). DS is only 17 years old, so not sure how minors navigate these 100 plus pages going back to the last 7 - 10 years.

Yes they fill it out, it is specific on what areas need less info if you’re not 18. My daughter was 17 before taking the oath.

BTW…the one they fill out manually, from their PTR packet, is used as a guideline for when they do it for real, online, during plebe summer. At least it was as if 2 yrs ago.

One of mine had to call during PS to get further info while doing this at the computer. It was an awesome, unexpected (and short) call!!

Go to a running store and get a free fitting that determines the right shoe for your level of “pronation.” That relates to your arches and how much they collapse when your foot strikes the ground. Getting the right type of shoe makes all the difference in the world when you’re running multiple miles nearly every day.

Don’t worry about being spotted in photos. One sure way of being found in pictures is if you’re the one on crutches because of shin splints or stress fracture. The right shoes can help prevent that. 😉
I have read on this forum, if possible, buy two pairs of running shoes. This way one pair is always dry.

Does anyone know when the PTR is supposed to come out? Anything I should do to get ahead on the paperwork that usually takes a while?
Not sure when it will come out but we went ahead and submitted the c/o 2026 info for opening an NFCU account (not required but my son didn't have his own checking account). If they already have another account they can use it for direct deposit but NFCU does have a branch on the yard for convenience. Gave us time to get a venmo account linked to the NFCU and then linked it to our personal account in the event we need to send money for emergencies.

The other items may change a bit so we decided to hold off to when the PTR is released in a few weeks.

Back to the prior question, candidate should wear their fave running shoes, bring ID, PRT, and ziplock with labeled phone and charger. The rest will figure itself out.

Before the day is over they will be lugging around many pounds of issued gear. They will want for nothing but peace and quiet.

Quick question: what kind of ID? I do not have a driver's license, only a passport. Should i bring that, or will a birth certificate work? TIA

What do you mean to bring PRT? Did you mean PTR?

Be sure to keep a copy of this at home just in case the original gets lost over plebe summer. It happens.

What do you use for ID now? Mom and Dad will not be around to help you once you arrive at USNA. They will issue you a military ID but there are times when you might not want to use that. Maybe your state or locality offers a non-driving ID that you can obtain before you move out on your own at the end of June.

I've not had to use an ID other than my school ID or birth certificate. I only use my passport when I travel. I have tried to get an ID through DMV but they are so backed up that my first appointment was not until August.
