Post-Appointment Class of 2027 Hangout: PTR, I-Day, What To Bring, Leave Periods…all that endless new stuff

Dropping almost 3 minutes per mile in 8 weeks while increasing mileage and frequency. :biglaugh:

I wish that was how it worked. :p

I should have read that plan more carefully. That is a terrible idea for running.
I endorse this message. That’s WAYYY too much running. Need to add more interval training and variety. Unless you are a seasoned CC athlete, that week 8 is a recipe for injury (even then it’s too much). IF you are even able to hold this pace, it should be no more than 2 times in that week.

Also... the instructions say to list the USNA as current address but I have to put someone down as a neighbor that knew me, should I put the plebe I stayed with during my CVW or?

Quick question. I know it is updated now (Thank You!), but do they send out an email or an update on the portal with information about it?

Nice! Major Antonelli is awesome. Watching him lead '26 PEP last summer it was hard to believe he's my age.

'27 heed his message ;-)

I'm going through the packet, seeing what I can assist my DS with. What is the Navy uniform regulation for sunglasses? I've seen some mids wearing them in some of the YouTube videos. I know plebes are issued glasses and allowed to bring 2 civilian pairs with them on I-Day, it says no transitions lenses. Are they allowed any type of sunglasses at anytime in uniform while at the academy? Mahalo.

I do not think they are allowed during plebe summer. After they are I believe, I know at a football game they were given 'fake' aviators.
- No eccentric glasses are permitted in uniform

No sunglasses in formation, and your plebe will be in formation or groups most of PS. I don’t think sunglasses are allowed during PS. Once the academic year starts, he can research the appropriate uniform regulations and let you know. He will be expected to manage his uniforms and grooming as a mid, and he will start learning about that over plebe summer.

All these regulations await your son. But Siri is whispers in my ear, so see Chapter 5, General Information, in the link below.

Has anyone gotten the email from admissions with the actual "Permit to Report" and their personal report time?

The official email with report time and links came on May 31st last year. And company assignments and summer mailing addresses came the week before I-Day. The PTR link you see on the forums right now is where appointees need to start.

@USMCfam is correct - I downloaded the instructions/checklist and read thru them - lots of forms and such I would be doing if it was me and not waiting on the snail mail letter. Unless you like you are the wait to the last minute, hair on 🔥 type.

To clarify, I just turned 17 and was not able to get a legal permit through my school because I took the permit test too young while in high school. I took the written test at the beginning of the year and then did the mandatory 6 hours of driving and was not able to apply to take the road test until September of this year. When I was notified of this, I tried to make an appointment to just get an ID and that's when I was told no appointments until August.
Perhaps your local state’s representative office can be of assistance. Doesn’t hurt to ask.

So for those families that aren’t on this site or Facebook for instance, how are they notified that the PTR is ready to be acted upon?

Waiting for an email that doesn’t arrive until the end of may, when the first materials are due back to USNA on 5/15?

Email? Portal?

For my appointee son, no email and nothing in the portal. And the above poster said the emails aren’t issued until the end of May.

One of his summer seminar friends had no idea the stuff was ready to go until they were texting each other earlier today.

They will likely be scrambling and panicking in June. Not every appointee has every item submitted on May 15th. Some parts may take longer, some appointees find out later, but it is in everyone’s best interest to get a jump on things for preparation purposes. That’s way USNA can be sure everyone’s sizes are ordered, glasses are ready, shots are drawn up, etc. It will all happen eventually though.
