Got my DODMERB letter and registered on the DODMETS site just like it said. It then informed me that I need to start calling providers to set up appointments in the next 5 days, and need to complete my exams in 6 weeks.

Are these timelines set in stone? With finals and the holidays coming up, I imagine its gonna be pretty hard to get all of this done in the next 6 weeks and kind of freaking out. I still need to order glasses! Would there be repercussions if I waited until January to do this stuff?

It is not set in stone, but I surely would get it done at the 1st available opportunity. You need to contact them directly for an extension.

Just my opinion, but I sure as sheeaaattt would not push it back by 1 day.
~~~It appears you have a vision issue (glasses comment), not saying it will cause a remedial or DQ, just saying I wouldn't want that hanging over me.
I may be missing something, but I do not see the problem. Today is Sunday Dec 1. Tomorrow you use your cell phone and lunch period for something other than texting your friends and call to make your appointments for after exams... say Dec 20 and well before the 6 weeks deadline... say Dec 31. I'm sure you will remember to write the appointment time down.
Next you call your eye Dr and ask for your contacts script to be rewritten for glasses.
(of course this means having put those phone numbers and your other calendar items into your phone today so you have handy them tomorrow).
Then pick up that lens script after school and deliver it to a glasses store... and here is the hard part ..... pick out frames! You may need someone to hold your hand for that one. Unless you are in a really remote area without phone service, you'll have convenient appointments and glasses by Wed at the latest.
Now get on it and stop wringing your hands.
S&H - 6 weeks are forever. You have plenty of time and I expect you will be able to easily schedule your medical exams around your school and holiday schedule. Get on it.
Strength - do you have a WalMart where you live? they have glasses for $39, and a few of the choices of frame are actually not too bad! My DS1 needed a cheap pair fast once. Also when DS had his DoDMERB exams, we called the eye Dr first , scheduled that for early morning (they said that appointment would only take 15 minutes, and it was 2 weeks out), then called the Dr and discovered it was a walk-in place. They did not make appointments. We were VERY fortunate to get there right after the eye exam (like 915 AM) and only waited in the waiting room 20 minutes, however, folks who got there after us waited an hour!
Schedule it, get it over with - you never know what the weather is going to bring this time of year!
Thanks for the help guys. So far, I've gone to Walmart and put my order in for glasses: they should be here within two weeks at the most. Tomorrow I'm going to call and set up my appointments; I'll be gone from Dec 25-Jan 6 for Florida but I don't think I'll have any trouble getting it set up.
Our medical examiner seems to be a first come, first served type place as well, so the only real problem will be getting the eye appointment set up. Hopefully I can get all of this knocked out before I leave for FLA and be able to enjoy my vacation haha.
Medical History Forms
Now you have to fill out the somewhat time consuming medical history forms.
Remember, any conditions you say 'yes' to, be prepared to fill out a supplemental form.....allergy, orthopedic, surgery.....
Everything is scheduled and ready to go on Friday December 20th! Thanks for the help and wish me luck!
Update:
Took my eye exam and physical today. Surprisingly, the eye exam was the hardest part and very thorough, I found some of the things (depth perception) to be pretty tricky, mostly because I was switching back and forth between glasses/no glasses and then into contacts; but the Optimetrist didn't mention that it would be a problem :confused:
In terms of the physical it was very quick. I aced the hearing test and the physical was basically just listening to my heart, looking at my spine, looking in ears, and having me walk in weird ways around the office. Surprisingly, no protein urinalysis or anything like that. Just thought I'd post this for those of you who were worried about your appointments coming up :biggrin:
