phil84 - I apologize for the lengthy delay in responding to your request. They originally told me that it was a waiverable condition, however my class was the first year where they stopped awarding them to my condition and it became unwaiverable the following year. The exception to policy was originally brought up by my commander down at the airfield in the Wings of Blue. I had no idea what it was and he told me I should apply. I started talking with my AOC and he was ultimately the one who got me most of the details. You submit your package to them (if you have a civilian doctor who evaluates your eyes you can submit the results, you can include letters of recommendation from commanders or from family friends) and they will push it up the chain. I finalized my application in the middle of October and it was finalized and sent out of the academy in early december. My advice is to talk with your AOC and see if they can get more information on the current process. They are there to work for you.
I hope this helped, and again I apologize for the delay. I hope you are able to get around this and please dont give up on your dreams. Please let me know if you have any other questions.
