Prep School VS University

Is the prep school USAFA supported with a scholarship. For USNA, one can attend a Foundation prep school either with a USNA Foundation scholarship or, if one doesn't receive a scholarship, attend on his/her own.

If you have the scholarship for USNA purposes, succeed at the prep school, and still want to attend, you are virtually guaranteed an appointment. Thus, it is the way to go if you want to be at USAFA. However, if you attend a prep school "on your own" (not supported by the SA), all bets are off. You compete for an appointment like with everyone else.

I have no idea if things are the same for USAFA. However, if they are, I would give serious consideration to a regular college. The advantages are: (1) you have a full year with college courses, and (2) if you decide you no longer want to reapply and or don't get accepted to USAFA, you are already at a good college.

Also, prep schools help prepare you for college. If you believe (and USAFA confirms) that your h.s. background was sufficient (essentially, you are qualified but there were others more qualified than you), a prep school may not be of much benefit. It's really a personal decision based on your qualifications and desires.

It's a recommendation for USAFAPS, so if you get in, you're part of that program. FF is not involved...there's nothing to "pay for" as it is simply CAP sending your name to the academy.
