So I was fortunate enough to get Nominated from my Senator for the USMMA and already had a LOA. My Status has now changed to "Principle" - how soon do you think I will receive my Appointment Package? I believe something needs to get processed through MARAD before they send out the Appointment paperwork??

My DS in a similar situation received his paperwork in under a week which I thought was pretty good since we're on the west coast. Congratulations!

Kp2013, when you speak of paperwork, do you mean a nicee congrats letter and a fill in the box reply form to be mailed and faxed? I ask because that is what ds got but I was expecting more of a packet of information. "Do this next" instructions if you will.

Don't worry - beyond the nice letter and reply form there will be tons of information (and forms to fill out) to come.

Popgeer, congratulations!
Happy New Year to all my new SAF friends! I am starting to like you guys better than my Facebook friends and I know I like them way better than my real friends! :shake:

I was talking about the appointment certificate that came right away. The "what to do next"'packet did not arrive until April which made us a little nervous (well, me anyway.). Just as a heads up, the only difficult task is that appointees will have to obtain a TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential) card. Make sure to apply for that right away when you get your instructions because it takes several weeks to get one at some locations around the country.

TWIC and passport

I would go so far as to getting started on the TWIC and passport ASAP. On the bottom of the USMMA.edu website is a copy of the 2014 Logging in Book which has information on the TWIC. Googling TWIC will also result in the government website to get you started. When DS applied in 2009, it was a 2 trip process since we lived within 200 miles of a center. Scheduling appointments required working around classes, early dismissal days and team practices.

Our DS surprise was the whole wisdom-teeth removal thing -- NO WAY were his coming in properly. It basically boiled down to 'Chipmunk cheeks for Prom, or for Graduation' :) So, don't wait as long as we did.
