Soon to be Plebe class of 2028 here. So at home I wear Vivo barefoot shoes for working out, running, etc and was wandering if I would still be able to use them at USNA. I know they issue running shoes but didn't know if you're required to wear them or not. Thanks!

You can bring your own! Many plebes bring 2 pairs of shoes for PEP and use the issued ones for regular wear!!

Not sure on usage for Plebe Summer, but after PS it shouldn’t be an issue. Be prepared to wear non-barefoot type of shoes for PS.

You know your feet better than anyone else. But it's worth asking: Are those truly the best shoes for doing three, then four, then five, then six miles? Do they provide adequate support and cushioning for your arch type and running gait? Will they stand up to the rigors of everyday PT? Make sure you're truly geared for them, and they're truly geared for you. Otherwise, it could be a miserable time at PT five days a week.

How are they for chopping indoors on linoleum laid over concrete? Chopping is the brisk jog plebes use to navigate p-ways (passageways>halls) and ladders (stairs) inside Bancroft Hall multiple times a day. Do they give good traction for push-ups and other floor exercises?

You might want to wear a pair of lightly-broken-in conventional running shoes you like for I-Day check in, with the Vivos tucked into the small bag of stuff you are reporting in with.

No matter how adapted your feet are to that type of barefoot shoe, I would caution you against it. DS had excellent custom fitted shoes. Still ended up with dual long bone stress fractures in both legs after plebe summer.

Long road to recovery. Avoid at all costs.

You won’t be allowed to wear barefoot shoes during Plebe Summer. Personal running shoes already broken in are encouraged, but for the sake of uniformity you’ll want to use normal running shoes in a conservative color—Probably either black, gray, white, or dark blue I think. Consult your permit to report packet.

“Footsie”

“Footsie”
“Feetz”
Or…Tootsie.

Exactly how these things happen.

For the OP - this is all “welcome to the military” fun. You’ve gotten some good answers to your question. That’s a fine choice of footwear. Maybe not during the “Dark Ages” in Annapolis, between winter break and spring break in March. Dark, dreary, cold, raw, “drizzly mix” precip.

My mid wore her running shoes to IDay,
The day after, my husband and I went to the post office and mailed the second pair of her shoes
On IDay she was fitted with Brooks Ghost and was issued 2 pairs, she did not dislike them
You are free to wear the running shoes of preference. She has already move to a different brand of what she originally wore when she was a plebe
The only question I have. Are the vivo barefoot going to stand lots of concrete running? I know they have different designs but some don’t have that much support

Note. It is a great thing for family and friends for you to wear a different, rather colorful running shoes (or neon shoelaces ) It makes it easier to find you in the many pictures posted during PS
Welcome and Go Navy !!

Yes, my mid showed up on IDay with her running shoes and we mailed a second pair the day after.
We (friends and family) loved it because it makes it easier to find het in pictures !!
