Question for Current Students or Alumni

My DS is taking college courses concurrently while in high school and will graduate with his Associates degree. He has taken and passed Calc 1 and currently takes Calc 2 and Phys 1 and will take Calc 3 and Phys 2 next semester. Does anyone know if they will transfer or will he have to retake

My son did AP classes and he was only able to opt out of 1 course, English. Which was a help.

The calc at KP is FAR more simple than AP Calc BC. When I was there the difference between doing well on the placement test was the difference between a class that met 4x/week or 3x/week. It isn't "harder" or "easier" they just meet fewer days per week. If you're doing well in a legit AP Calc BC you should have 0 issues at KP. KP calc I is mostly derivatives and calc II was integrals. Clac II didn't get much farther than the classic water tank problem.

My advice, place out of everything you possibly can. When I was there and had a 3.XX GPA it was to the point that anything less than a B+ would lower my GPA. Getting a B+ or above is really hard in a lot of KP classes. If you can place out, the hard classes won't hurt you. That frees up more time to put in to other classes.

The parents here all say don't place out. The grads all say that you should place out. Do with that information what may.
I would say place out of whatever you can. Calc 1 was an easy A for me though since I had one of the better teachers. If you can place out of physics definitely do it. I would say physics at KP is way worse than calc.

This thread is the right one I hope. What kind of civilian clothing does a plebe need? Seeing as they don't get much free time I didn't see my DS needing a bunch of items. Can someone help me with this question?

None. Just the clothes on his or her back when reporting will be plenty. You will receive a packing list of necessary items. LESS IS BEST. Depending on what company they are in, any additional civilian clothes might be confiscated. Bring clothes for your Plebe at parents weekend or have him/her bring a few items back after fall break.

I just posted this in another active thread. The Logging In doc for ‘24. I don’t think these change too much from year to year. It’s just to give you an idea. The ‘25 version will be the ruling document.

Yeah, even back in my day, I just brought a couple of changes (since I flew cross country). Once we were issued our clothing, our civvies were locked away, I believe. . . . those first few and rare liberties into the surrounding area and the City were in uniform. As I recall, I may have brought some civvies back after Christmas break. I do recall changing into them in train station bathrooms. . an experience that can be rather interesting in the greater New York City area. . . .
