Question Regarding SAT for AFROTC

Good morning, I am an applicant for the AFROTC Scholarship for high schoolers. My standardized testing is 1400 - 720 reading, 680 math and 1340 - 630 reading, 710 math. I understand AFROTC does not superscore, however, I want to show my math score. Does this mean even if I send my 1340 with the higher math, it has no subsistence since it is lower. Any advice? Thank you!

To consider results from two different tests IS superscoring, which as you indicated, they don't do. Are you hoping they will informally look at it/note it in your application? Maybe, they might. Or submitting two test results could also mean they take the wrong scores, or it works against you because it would appear that you didn't understand their policy surround SAT scores, or you've chosen to ignore it.

So many different ways this could go for you as you have no control over what happens once you decide to submit an application outside their stated guidelines. I'm sure there are lots of candidates that would like to have a superior score considered, but that's not what they are asking for.

I'm not sure what the expectation is for AFROTC SAT scores, but it's been a tough year for standardized tests - they know that as well and that may work in your favor. Good luck!

Yes, I want them to note it in my application because I am pursuing a stem major. However, I think I will take the safe route and not submit my lower score with a higher math. Thank you so much for the advice!

Maybe someone with more knowledge of the AFROTC process can chime in with advice (I, on the other hand, am just a parent :)

It's not an easy process to navigate - hang in there.

AFROTC takes best sitting which is your best composite score. My DS's scores were automatically sent to AFROTC scholarship as we chose that option upon registration for the test, so 3 scores were sent. I don't think that is viewed as disregarding the best sitting policy. The scholarship page indicates which score is your best sitting.

I assumed the candidate was sending in two different scores with their application and asking them to consider the sections individually. I would agree, sending official scores directly by the testing agency so they can pick which one they consider best sitting is a different scenario.

Thanks for clarifying.

By best composite score, does that mean superscoring? I thought that AFROTC does not supersocre or take the best composite score? I believe I am misunderstanding something. Thank you so much for the information.

I understand now, they will most likely take the score that they value more. Thank you so much!

As a follow up, should I submit my lower score with higher math section just in case? Or is it too late... Thank you!

My understanding is "Composite Score" is the entire score in one sitting (not superscored)

Composite score is the average of the scores per section at one test sitting. So, if you tested in Sept, your composite score is the average of the sections from that specific testing date. Super scoring is the average of the best score from all sittings (or all testing dates, if you want to put it that way).

Did you submit from college board to AFROTC yet? You can submit every test BUT they will record your best score from one sitting only.

And to someone else’s response, super score is not an average...Super score is your best math score of all tests taken, combined with best reading/writing score across all tests taken, and combined for a “super” score. There’s likely a reason Air Force wants to see your score for your best “sitting” even though it may not be your best singular math or reading score but best singular performance.

^^^That's what I meant to say about super score. It is the best score from each section "averaged" to create a super composite score.

Just will share my understanding.

The SAT composite score is the sum of the two section scores (Verbal, Math in SAT's case, for example), not the average. We're not adding the numbers together and dividing that sum for an average (well technically you could divide it by 1, but). AFROTC reportedly evaluates you on your best sitting - your best day. See other board posts with this detail or confirm directly as you would find of value.

Superscoring is when they take the best math and best verbal from any sitting, sum those, and consider that your best score. USAFA superscores per their website.
