For those of us who had to finish our applications by November 1st (the first deadline) and didn’t receive an appointment so far, is the likelihood of an appointment very low since it’s rolling admissions? No. Admissions is releasing results in clusters through a rolling admissions system.
USAFA rarely issues LOAs unlike other academies that use them more frequently.@LTBob87 how did you receive a medical waiver before you were considered competitive. Correct me if I’m wrong, but don’t you need an LOA before your DoDMERB file is forwarded to the USAFA waiver authorities?
How it works is you are given a different application. I didn't go to the prep school but I'm sure the application is very very close to mine. Which means no interviews, no essays and no rec letters. No interviews because you teachers are there and they write your rec letters and no essay because well again they are seeing who you are in person. For falcon we signed a contract. Do such and such and don't f up and you're in. I'm sure prep school has even more restrictions but also a contract. It's not 100% correct but if you do everything and recieves a nomination try 99.9%You have to reapply, but I’m pretty sure it’s a slightly seperate process, and if you just do your best and do well at USAFSPS it’s a virtually guaranteed spot. Not actually guaranteed spot
It is not true rolling admissions like other schools. There are so many parts to this process that it is futile to try and figure out where you stand. There is much you can’t see of what is being weighed, waited for, and reviewed. You put forward your best application and wait with the rest. Until you get the TWE you are in the running. For those of us who had to finish our applications by November 1st (the first deadline) and didn’t receive an appointment so far, is the likelihood of an appointment very low since it’s rolling admissions?
I will say this, there is this thing called FERPA, you have the legal right to request all data, that a publicly funded school has on file for you, this includes admission files, you can see what the admission officer’s said about your application and what their thought/impression of you was. I encourage all of you if appointed or rejected to at some point in time ask USAFA to provide you with the records they have on file for you, under FERPA, to maybe get a somewhat better ideas of how you got in. It certainly won’t contain a whole lot but definitely better then nothing.
Not necessarily. Someone on your slate could have submitted there application in late December which would delay everyone on the slate. Possibly holdups could include retaking the CFA, waiting on medical waiver, retaking the ACT/ SAT. There are many possible reasons for why slates could be getting held up at admissions. For those of us who had to finish our applications by November 1st (the first deadline) and didn’t receive an appointment so far, is the likelihood of an appointment very low since it’s rolling admissions?
My DS was a 1 NOV also. He just got his med waiver last Thursday. Household is on a holding status waiting on results. It is good to see this current batch of appointments is hitting, but we will most likely have to wait until the next round. Maybe that means we will have some resolution soon. Just curious, what did it look like on your portal when USAFA requested a waiver for you? I'm also in need of a waiver and wondering where to look. No, USAFA will initiate it whenever they see you as “competitive” no one really knows what the means other than the obvious fact that you have potential to become a cadet. I received my medical waiver without ever getting an LOA.
I would suggest checking DoDMERB daily. You’ll first get an email from DoDMERB telling you everything you need to know. The Academy should send you an email shortly after as well. In my experience nothing will change on your actual USAFA Portal, all relevant changes, updates, and requests will be made on DoDMERB.Just curious, what did it look like on your portal when USAFA requested a waiver for you? Thank you!! I was under the impression that it would just be on the USAFA portal so I haven't checked DoDMERB often. I got an initial email about being disqualified but nothing since so fingers crossed.I would suggest checking DoDMERB daily. It honestly just happened out of the blue in my case. I knew I needed a waiver since about October, I didn’t get the waiver process initiated for me until Late December, which was when I got an email to check DoDMERB. I don’t think anyone can give you an accurate estimate of when or if USAFA will start your waiver process. Everyone’s case is different, but I will say that once my additional medical information was submitted, my waiver was granted about 2 days after, just remember everyone’s case is different though.
If you have any questions concerning the DoDMERB process itself, Mr. Mullen would be able to help you far better than any one else could.
No problem, you’ll get an email to check your DoDMERB status by both parties once there’s any changes. Just to be sure though, it doesn’t hurt to check DoDMERB daily. Once the process is initiated they’ll post a correspondence that outlines everything you’ll need to know.Thank you!! My DS is the same with a USMA appointment in hand. He got a lot of feedback from his RC on the competitiveness of his USMA app, but we are flying blind WRT his USAFA app. I like your logic but we won't count our chickens quite yet.Not sure of USAFA process, but what I am seeing from the self-report thread, there are not many LOA's listed. We ran numbers from a scoring site that mirrors the "highly competitive" nature of my DS' application. He got an LOA from USMA in Sep '21 and our thoughts run to the attitude that if West Point wanted him that much, then he should be competitive for USAFA. He has a USMA appointment in hand but is waiting on USAFA for any final decisions.
