Questions, Chatter, Congrats for the 2026 USAFA Appointment Thread

Did he get the JROTC nomination? just wondering if JROTC and ROTC instructors are notified when someone gets an appointment with one of the JROTC/ROTC nominations

My guess is they weren't notified by USAFA but the principal was told by the MOC and then passed it on to the instructor. This kinda happened in my school two years ago when we had two people get into different academies. The MOC is very familiar with our military and knew our instructor reached out to let him know a day before the portals updated. That was a great day in class.

So I pulled up the law. They aren't required to:

CFR 32 § 901.21a

"Notification of candidates selected for appointment are furnished by USAFA/RRS to HQ USAF/DPPA. HQ USAF/DPPA notifies Members of Congress and the Vice President of offers of appointment. After HQ USAF/DPPA notifies the nominating sources and advises USAFA/RRS that notification has been completed, USAFA/RRS notifies each appointee (civilian, Regular or Reserve service member) by letter, enclosing an acceptance or declination statement form."

His JROTC instructors asked us to meet them after school but didn't say why. We had an idea but honestly thought he might be getting USNA because the JROTC is Navy. We were blown away that it was USAFA as that was by far his first choice. What a day! Thank you!!
So happy for you all 💓 congratulations again.

He did not, he is in NJROTC not AFROTC. He had the MOC nomination.

At my son's school, the appointee notifies the Academy that he/she wants their appointment letter to be presented at their school. The academy coordinates with the school and then send an officer or a non-commissioned officer to present the appointment. Very emotional ceremony by the way.

Congratulations to the new appointees! Question to the ones receiving calls, are all of those calls made by the MOC or MOC's office? Just wondering if any Senator is calling as well. Thanks in advance.

My DD was at a track meet when our Congressman called her cell phone and left her a voicemail that he had some really good news for her. She was so upset that she missed his initial call! She called him back between her events and he informed her of the appointment.

Thank you! I received a call directly from my Congressman. No middle man. My appointment was not charged to a senator so I cannot help you on that front. 😂

My son received an email from our MOC office, stating that the congressman would like to speak with him tomorrow at 1:00. We are so excited yet unsure what this means.
Why would they call you to tell you that he didn't get in? Especially after all the calls of acceptance going around? Idk but it seems like you've got a rendezvous with destiny at 1! :) Congrats!

Hello. My DS has applied to all three Academies. He received his appointment to West Point over a Month ago, but his preference is either USAFA or USNA due to interest in COMP SCI. Is it normal for USAFA to take this long? The portal shows no information on updates, and he is getting discouraged. I am a '97 USNA grad, so I understand the waiting game, but USAFA with lack of portal updates is an enigma. I believe all notifications are due by April 15, but does USAFA strive to be complete by a particular date? Looking to provide my DS some optimism. Thks.

The portal that USAFA is using right now is a new system, so may be taking slightly longer than usual. I think that the "big wave" of appointments are coming this week. A buddy of mine who's applying for the c/o 2026 just got a call from his congressman yesterday notifying him of an appointment, and that the portal should update with his letter on the 20th. You might have a MoC who doesn't call. If your DS received an appointment to West Point already, I'm sure he's competitive for the other two Academies, and very well may receive an appointment letter from USAFA on the 20th! :)

The MOC called my daughter while she was at school. It has been the best part of the process for sure as everything else has been about the portal and non verbal communication. She started by saying my staff and I are so happy for you but more than anything we are proud of you and thank you for all of the hard work and we are really grateful for you choosing to serve our country. We look forward to following you and all you are going to accomplish in the future. She ended by saying please keep in touch and if there is anything we can do for you in the future please give my office a call. Great touch by our MOC and something we will remember forever.

My MOC's office texted my mom to coordinate a time when my MOC could call and let me know. My USNA and USAFA appointments were a week apart, and he called on both occasions. He had fun jazzing it up "Well, I know you got into the Naval Academy but a problem has come up." ;)
Also very supportive, similar to IceMan2026's comments.
