What is the weight standard for a male 5'10? I currently weigh 165 lbs. Is that considered a good weight?
Yeah, you're fine slim!
Will I get sent home on R-Day if I am slightly overweight?
You may be over the limit on the weight standards but what is your body fat percentage? My son is always "overweight" per the charts they use. He then gets his body fat percentage checked, usually it is between 6 and 8% so he is good to go. I don't know what the upper limit is but scoutpilot can probably tell you.

My son's worrying about the same for AF. He makes the weight standard (min) by about 2 pounds on a good day. Bulking him up over the next week! I've been told at AF at least it's good after I Day to be below weight because then you get protein drinks/bars during Beast - not sure if it's true for WP!What about the opposite. Will you be sent home for being slightly underweight?

While I don't know about protein bars, the good news for the small types is that food deprivation is no longer permitted. When I was cadre in 2002 the rules were changed and we had to allow new cadets to eat after Attention to Orders, regardless of how poorly they'd performed. One of my friends and fellow squad leaders did not heed the regulation, and was relieved and received a military F for the summer.
That was a positive change. Food deprivation did nothing but cost me 27 pounds and prove to me that I really liked food.
Though I can't speak to supplementation at meals, new cadets are monitored for overall health and proper nutrition is watched as well.
You won't be sent home for being light. They aren't going to throw away a WP slot when all they have to do is feed you some extra congo bar to remedy the issue.
As a 40-something mom, I can almost muster up some sympathy for you!Thank you! I almost make it, and I'm trying really hard to gain as much weight as possible, but I'm just built really light and I have a really fast metabolism.

Funny. That's what my mom and dad say.
I have a 50/50 chance. My dad's metabolism caught up with him. My mom's never did (over 50 and still 105!). However, my brother- who actually got put on a milkshake diet as a kid because he was so thin- goes to penn state, and the creamery defeated his metabolism. He had to join a gym .
Regardless, eat congo bar. You'll never worry about low weight. In the event of an emergency, try Dong Fong with a side of slug nectar (Marciemi might know what slug nectar is...)
Embarrased to admit that I don't! Must be "New Corps!"
On a separate note (and keeping this thread totally off track), did they still have Go Army Cake (and soda!) on Friday nights before football games while you were there? DH was shocked to find out on his trip there in April that none of the cadets knew what he was talking about!
