Remaining NROTC Boards

If the recruiter "ghosts" you, sometimes a friendly call to the NTAG can help break the log jam. Recruiters get shuffled around a bit, and it's just not a perfect system unfortunately.
DD got notified last night that she was awarded the scholarship! We are so proud and so excited!! However, they placed her at her #1 school at which she applied Early Decision and was rejected. She is now worried about transferring the scholarship. She is still waiting to hear from 10 schools by April 1. Any advice at this stage? I assume she should wait for acceptances before requesting a transfer, but we all know what assuming does .... 🤣🤣

Two bits of advice. Check with NROTC at unit 1, and they "might" be able to persuade a different decision there.

Check with unit two and see if they can do the same thing. It would be unusual for someone to get an NROTC scholarship and be rejected by every college. But on the off chance that happens, shoot me a note. I have room. CAPT MJ swears that GWU, GEORGETOWN, and CATHOLIC are among the best NROTC units out there. (I think that's what she said anyway) ;)

Well Georgetown is one of her 5, we visited the campus and she loved it. She's just waiting to hear back from them!

There might be someone in the thread that could help with that ......... :bleh2:

It's funny that my wife got her degrees from Georgetown and GWU, and my son didn't even think about applying there. (Okay, not really funny as it definitely was a cost issue).

CAPT, who would be the best POC for my DD to reach out to at your unit? Nursing scholarship recipient, waiting to hear from one of the schools in your consortium (her #2).

My daughter applied to my alma mater (I got 2 degrees there!!) and was rejected. 🤷‍♀️ The whole admissions process is a mystery.

If no email, then your DS could be an alternate, or as you mention, he may have been a non-select. The final results should come out in the next few weeks. Once i know all the boards are complete I will let people know on the forums.

If he is already accepted at TAMU, I think the best recommendation is to check with the NROTC unit there and see when they start their side load interviews. It varies from unit to unit. Mine are starting up in 2 weeks, but I like to get a jump because it gets busy around end of semester with finals and commissioning. And my interviews are for MIDN 4/C College Programmers. So in your DS case, they tell him to wait until he gets to the unit and then start the process. The TAMU Colonel there has been with TAMU for a long time and will give very good recommendations.
Thank you so much for the reply, but just to make sure I understand where he is in the process- he still has one more board ( currently in session) for a look, then if he isn’t selected he could go on an alternate list or out of running with a non- select? If he’s an alternate he then has to wait for all the dust to settle with other candidates.
I guess I’m a little nervous for him at this point applying for a side load at TAMU because he interviewed with the Lieutenant on a zoom call from TAMU and I can only think my son did not come across well on the interview. I guess I’ll hope he can improve that impression after a year there. He really felt an immediate bond with the kids there when he visited- in my experience that is the main ingredient to go the course, that and desire.

So he should wait for final results this season before trying to do a side load application. And he would need to check in with a unit first anyway and then they would consider him for a sideload.

If you can PM me with either a last name or just the initials (first, then last), I will check and see when the schools are about to announce. Please, no PII, I can find DD in our system. I just have to tune it to look for people who listed us as #2.

Mine is awaiting USNA decision as well. Mine is going next week to SNWC at TAMU. He is staying with S1. Has yours picked his top 5 outfits yet?
He's picked top 1 outfit. He did the SNWC last fall with this unit, I randomly chose because it needed to be turned in and I couldn't reach him at school. Well, not totally randomly...I read the mission statements, but they all sound pretty good. Anyway, he won't even consider another outfit at this point. I'm not sure it's a great fit, but he's 18 and knows ALL. Honestly he's super excited about tamu and I know he'll be happy there! And it's about an hour from home. The waiting for USNA is getting to me (not so much him), I just want to know and be able to move on and make plans!

Nice to know our kids are in same boat (pun intended). Any further insight to the various outfits to choose from please pass along. Although my son also visited, he is unsure of which outfit. The waiting is probably worse for the parents. My son is too busy with his classes to be bothered with forums such as this which are reassuring and informative but also nerve wreaking at the same time. Texas or Naval Academy will require a different road map and I just want to know where he is going so we can start figuring out the logistics.

I think all of us are in the same boat (to quote your pun). I have told DS that he needs to understand how fortunate he is that all of his plans, be it A B C or D are most kids dreams. There are no bad options at this point. If you haven't had the opportunity to take part in zoom meetings with the outfits I would recommend it. There is an Aggie CO2026 page on Facebook. It has been very helpful regarding information and meeting people going through the same things we are experiencing.

All that ^. It was recommended for us to follow the outfits on social media, but I'm not sure how true of a picture you will get from their social media pages. Do you have the list of social media pages? If not I can try to send it to you.

Agree 100%. I keep telling DS that his back up plan is many people's dream that never comes true. He does realize that (to a certain extent), as he has friends that have always dreamed of becoming an aggie and have not yet been admitted. We are on the FB page and it is very helpful. Kuddos to Joe Hoffman who does an excellent job!

Sir, I am going to send a message over to the unit’s email address listed on the GWU website, perhaps we can connect that way. I don’t seem to have the PM functionality yet.

Thanks everyone, I'll take a look at the facebook page and look for different zoom meetings. Definitely would also appreciate any links when you come across them. The problem is always time. He participated in a Corps zoom meeting this last week (focus on drill team I think) and it lasted 1 1/2 hours, he had so much homework before and after he was up till nearly one and he didn't have time for a run. We are planning a spring break trip mid April (spend time with family and beach time) and hopefully things will slow down a bit for him to get the research- that's where I like to think I help- point him in toward the best info instead of going down rabbit holes like I do.

I actually did see your pm and replied.
