Major selections are input!

Son asked for Applied Math with History as his back-up.

He scored 100% on ProKnow for NSW. But he still isn't planning to go SEALs. ;)

Also, did their freestyle test in swimming, which he passed, but was not happy with the stroke count. Said they can re-do one later, and I'm going to work with him over Spring Break on his form and stroke.

Yup, Spring Break is next week!
Arabic #1 choice
Breast stroke passed
Proknow 105 and said guess I need to go SEAL. 😉😂

Looking forward to spring break!

DS got 1st choice, Foreign Area Studies, but for summer trainings, no leave.

Anyone know if that happens to Mids/rising plebes very often? Seems odd no leave.

Does he play a fall varsity sport? it is my understanding that they typically get assigned to 0 block so they can have leave. Or did he request 3 blocks?

They don’t HAVE to have a leave block. Many don’t. Some have summer schools, which goes to those requiring it first, and then is open to Mids electing to take a class.

Is it common for Group 3 majors to be assigned summer school instead of leave?
There is involuntary summer school, and voluntary.
Just what you think they might mean.

Involuntary are mids who have perhaps failed a class, survived an academic review, and are allowed to re-take it over the summer. Chem and Calc are notorious plebe-killers as is 3/C Physics.

Voluntary is when mids choose to take a summer school block, to: get ahead on matrix and ease the regular academic year (many varsity athletes do this), accommodate a double major, get some classes done in the summer that aren’t available if they are spending a semester at another SA or elsewhere, get all their undergrad credits done by Dec if their 1/C year so they are eligible to apply for VGEP. VGEP is granted to a handful of top-performing mids. They start a 1 year Master’s at a local university - Johns Hopkins, GWU, UMD, Georgetown, etc. - live on the Yard, commute to class spring semester, graduate and commission with class in May, stay in area to finish Master’s in December, then go to Fleet or Corps.

No one told me that I had to go to Summer School but I started in Pre-Calc for my first semester plebe year which put me one class behind and I would have had to overload even MORE than USNA's typical 18-19 credits so I did Summer School during 1/C year summer along with a fleet cruise (Mediterranean deployment) .

Dd got her first choice which is Computer engineering. Not very happy with her summer school block, which ends right before the ac year begins. Thought she would get it as an earlier block and have an ac break.

She'll be non for the worse returning to the Yard as a Youngster. She'll be lovin' life. It's a whole different ball game after plebe year.
