Roller coaster I: Get Us (The Parents) Through Plebe Year - Class of ‘26 🎢

There is a lot of lore that is no longer practiced. My personal favorite is throwing pennies into Tecumseh's quiver. Nobody really is putting all their hope for passing a final on a thrown penny, but we do it as a bit of a morale booster and it looks good for the tourists!

... so got a foreign language text message from DS from USS Daniel Inouye. He is on board for the Protramid phase. News last week announced that USS D. Inouye is preparing to deploy. Last ship selection for C/O 2023, I counted three Mids (now Ensigns) who selected it. Interesting!

My dude is currently steaming along the NC coast after leaving the Norfolk area on his YP cruise. Next 2-ish days at sea along the coast enroute to Charleston.

Got a free pass to Busch Gardens yesterday. Said he's realizing more how expensive life is out there! I said, "Welcome to adulting." :D

I think Sea World is also giving free passes to military folks. DS is doing YP cruise next block; leave after.

Agree on expensive out in the world. I gave him a Walmart money card to supplement his meager stipend. I load it regularly. It also let me know where he is spending cash... like the ship's exchange 🤔.

Yup. My son spent his layover at sea world for free. Saved 130 bucks. My understanding is one free ticket per year.

His grandmother wanted to get him some mad money, and is reaching out to him to see how she can do that (PayPal, Venmo, etc.).

He asked if my EBay account is still active as he got a really nice racing wheel for the Playstation from a firstie who was dumping crap on their move out, relatively new. He doesn't do car/racing simulators like me, and I prefer the joystick, so it is probably going up on the auction block! He also asked if he could reach out to the neighborhood to say he's available for odd jobs while he's home on leave in Block 2.

I think he wants to have some cash for his PROTRAMID as it will be in San Diego. ;)

Mine too. Dog walking, house sitting, etc. trying to fund her grub hub meals. 😂

Cool! Our family did two stints in SD. Once, when I was pretty young (like 1st - 3rd grade, or something) and the other while I was already out of the house in the military. Did my NAPS X-Mas break there. Pretty cool to walk onto my Dad's ship (USS Reid) while he was CO there as a NAPSter. Had a good chat with his XO, who was a SWO(N) about the seaboard life.

We went to the zoo a few times when I was a little kid.

PROTRAMID will be the dude's first flight somewhere since he was about 1. :eek2:

... so I've gotten a Protramid update from DS. I understood it as controlled chaos. No one knows what's up for the next day's schedule. He completed a helicopter ride this morning; sub and destroyer last few days. One thing he liked the most was having his own hotel room... like a mini vacation away from the yard.
