Does USAFA do rolling admissions or are there specific date(s) that they send out appointment letters?

Generally speaking once the process gets going the SA admissions boards meet weekly for ongoing batches of appointments to be sent out. Of course not the same qty each week.

With the rolling admissions process, does a candidate receive notice when his/her application is being sent up for review? If selected, they will be notified by The Academy or by their nomination source? If not selected, will they be notified early or will they be told in April? Do you get a second review slate if you have more than one nomination? Sorry, new to the process.

DD had her entire app completed o/a 1 November. Her portal had her in a complete status. She had no notification that her file was up for review.

She got an email (I think) on 1 December telling her to look in her portal. It was an offer of appointment. She didn’t get a call or any other heads up because she had only a presidential nom on file at the time. Once the offer of appt was made, she had 2 weeks to sign a consent form that allows the USAFA to do a criminal background check on her. She could either email the form back or send via snail mail.

Don't think of rolling admissions like a traditional college.

The bulk still is March that will find out due to the fact of how an appointment may occur. Maybe 30-35% will find out prior to March, but you will see the majority will not find out until March.

This is a marathon. Many will open their PCQ on Day 1 in March sometime as a junior. However, many of them will wait until March of their senior yr to get an appointment. Unlike a rolling admission, you need an MoC nom. on top of the SAT/ACT, school transcript, CFA and medical to be deemed 3Q. Most MOCs will not have a drop submission date until mid-Sept or Oct. for their nom and they have until Jan. 31st to submit that nomination slate to the SA.

Hence, don't expect to know in Oct. if you have an appointment if your MoC has yet to submit their nom. slate. No nom = no apptmt.

Just saying there is a heck of lot more in this process, than EA or ED. Remember when you apply next yr (assuming by the question you are a jr) There is a difference between EA and ED, 1 is binding, you can't get out of it. ED is binding saying no matter what you are going to attend that school. In essence you can only apply to 1 school as an ED applicant.

Best of luck, but prepare for March.

Candidates are not notified when their app is being reviewed. If selected, they are ideally (not always) contacted by their Nominating MOC. Then the Candidate's portal is updated to reflect their status change. Good luck!

So I'm a new parent to this process. I realize that everything is general and not specific. Once they get going, which it seems like they have, is it a couple appointments each week, a couple of dozen, more? I'm so new to the process, I just don't have a frame of reference. Now I do realize that the appointments probably increase as time goes by with the most in March. Duh, now that I read a little further in the post, it looks like 30% - 35% hear prior to March.

@Susan707 Every year is different but you can search for past appointment threads to spot trends (class of 2022, 2021, 2020) and so on...
My analysis, calculated from appointment threads, several people indicated they received appointments after receiving TWE.

This is just a snapshot, its based on self reporting and I suppose not statistically valid, but hey interesting trends. Sorry, I cannot get the format correct, I tried several times, its should be months by years.

Admissions at the service academy is not like admissions at a civilian college. The board does not just meet and say yes or no; there is an entire other process that resolves arounds slates and nominations.

The review can be completed months prior to admissions even receiving nominations so the board will not know if a qualified candidate will be offered. These candidates sit in the "national pool" until nominations are received and the application window closes. Then the qualified candidates are ranked on their nomination slates and the top ranked candidate is offered.

I have never heard it explained this way before!
