My son was disqualified today from DODMERB. He had a minor spinal fusion when he was 11 months old and has had no limitations since. Boston Children's Hospital gave him complete clearance for military service. He is currently serving in the Army Reserves. What is the best avenue to take to receive a medical waiver? Have people with similar issues received medical waivers for ROTC participation? Please help! Thank you!

You want to ask the mods to move this thread to DoDMERB, because this is more of a DQ, waiver question.

Good luck

is he currently in an ROTC Battalion? If he passed a MEPS physical and didn't mention the spinal fusion you may be in some trouble for failure to disclose.

If you read the letter from DODMERB is spells out the options:
1. rebut the finding, provide documentation that says he doesn't have what he was disqualified for
2. request a waiver from the service that he is trying to become an officer in. I'm guessing it is Army, so the Cadet Command surgeon would be the guy. If your son is already at a school he will request that waiver through his PMS.
