Hey all,
Welcome to the 214786th thread of waiver questions!
1. How will the Academy reach out to me (how long does it typically take this time of year)?
2. My DoDMERB Portal status says "under waiver review" is this the default or am I under review for a waiver?
3. My USNA portal still has a red "Incomplete" next to DoDMERB, when will it update and what will it update to?

Thank you all for participating in yet another enthralling round of waiver questions

You are under waiver review for a possible DQ. Your DoDMERB portal will tell you what the DQ is. Check the latest correspondence posted on the DoDMERB site.

From my DS waiver experience:

  • He was DQed Dec 15. Status showed up on DoDMERB for all the SAs he had applied to.
  • Only USAFA sent a generic email that said "this may not be the end for you." Other academies may or may not reach out. They didn't for us.
  • On Feb 7, he received a LOA from USMMA. He signed the LOA and sent it in over the weekend. (Feb 10)
  • On Feb 13, his DoDMERB portal changed to reflect the AMIs requested by USMMA Waiver Authority.
  • On Feb 15, today, he called the number on his DoDMETS portal to find out who his provider will be. Till then, the portal did not show AMI or provider.
  • He has been schedule for last week of Feb. Based on other posters experience, it takes anywhere from a day to a few weeks for waiver authorities to see the submitted AMI results and grant or reject the waiver.
It is a game of patience and counting beads. Good luck to you!

When he called DoDMETS they told him who his provider was? He was able to speak with someone?

Yes, he called and they told him. The portal also updated in a few minutes with the provider's information. However, the provider is booked through March. His one test is on Feb 27 and the second part is March 27. There is always something.

Ok. Every time my DD called she was sent to automated message and couldn’t speak with anyone. Do you know around what time of day he called? And did I read correctly above that he waited about 2 days after he received his AMI request that he called them? My DD was going to wait 30 days but I’m worried it’s going to take us a long time to get a Dr appointment! Thanks so much!

He called the number that was on the DoDMets portal around 11.30, I think. Are you checking both the DoDMETS and the DoDMERB portals? Because we found the hard way that there are two different sites, one for SA status and the other for AMIs, etc.

I'd also suggest he call or email his DoDMerb case manager or someone at CIV team. They are usually quick to respond and helpful. I wouldn't wait too long, because we will complete our AMI a month and a half after it was requested because the doctor is booked through March.

Sorry for the wait, my one kid got his answer in under 10 days from USAFA and never saw any movement from USMA after getting a LOA in August and locking into USAFA as soon as he got the nomination.

Unfortunately, every program is different in how they approach the waiver process once DoDMERB issues the DQ.

USAF (for USAFA & AFROTC) is the most organized of the services; their waiver authority is the same for both programs.

My son has a single DQ across the board for every program.

USMA waited until he turned in his CFA score to move the waiver process forward.

USAFA & AFROTC were the first to process and grant his waiver, he ultimately withdrew from consideration for USAFA but is still holding on to his AFROTC HSSP.

NROTC & ROTC both granted his waiver after the scholarship was awarded.

USMMA granted his waiver practically at the same time as NROTC.

USNA & USCGA seem to be pending admissions decisions before they move forward with the waiver process.

Fortunately, we only had to supply minimal AMI & see 1 specialist for a consult. It appears the information sharing process between the programs is working well as intended to streamline the process for both the applicant as well as limit money spent by DoD on outside medical consults.
