SAT/ACT Cancellations Causing Issues?

My ACT for September just got cancelled. UGH. This is my 4th test that’s been cancelled. Hopefully October’s won’t be

Update from US Army Cadet Command reference ACT/SAT.

Cadet Command is working to advance students to the interview stage of the national process without an SAT/ACT score but that it remains a requirement for the board phase.

You must still have an ACT or SAT score to be boarded. 200K HS students are being tested this week (vs 400k like planned. Testing site limitations reduced the #s).

Cadet Command is in line with West Point- must have an ACT/SAT score.

We will very likely have the first board as scheduled and without modification (SAT required). If testing frees up after someone was boarded, they can always send in a new test score to update their application and improve their position on the OML.

Continue working the application and try to test as best as you can.

If you haven’t started the process, go ahead and start and do what you can so you are ready as soon as you can take the ACT/SAT.

Do you know if this is final and in-effect, or is this just something that is currently being processed/discussed?

I just found out that testing most likely will be canceled this month and maybe next month due to a spike in positive cases.

I
How will applicants know that this is in effect? Status change or does it just allow for applicants to schedule their interview regardless of status?
I just told everyone. Program ROOs are supposed to communicate with applicants and apparently it will go to interviewee here shortly. Remember the government is propping up Internet Explorer- so I’m sure it’ll be flawless.

Sounds good. Thank you for filling me and everyone else in on the news!

Sir, I am in the same boat with SAT/ACT. I have completed my application, however, I cannot submit it because there is no score and the application won't allow for it without a score. I have not been contacted by an ROO. I was contacted as soon as I started by MO application. Should I use the "Contact Us" feature on the application site or is there a different way for me to reach out?

Recommend you reach out to the ROO at your #1 school.

I was able to get in one SAT test with all the cancellations last month and got a 1200.....quite low and I plan to improve upon that score. I did, however, get my PFA and PMS interview which both went really well. I basically did over max for the PFA and the PMS interview, according to the PMS, went great.....even invited me to join their battalion in PT(Which I'll do because that's the school I want to go to).

Update as of 28Oct.
ACT/SAT is offered in all 50 states. More than 100,000 exams have taken place each of the last two months, so it can be done.

if you cant test by march you’ll need to upload a cancelation document and your packet will be boarded in March with all the other no-ACT packets.

this will allow applicants to submit the most complete and most competitive packet possible.

Just curious, but would they take into account of all the cancellations that have happened for those who have been able to take it just one or two times? My area is still cancelling off and on depending on the spikes.....last test since someone tested positive the school system declared next month was gonna be cancelled.....it’s a rough and uncertain cycle with SATs and ACTs. Will class rank and gpa(although I know can be inflated depending) be counted for more heavily due to the struggles or is that uncertain?

This is a tough year to test for sure. My son had five tests cancelled between March and July. He has since taken five. I have taken him out of state twice and we had to go to other parts of the state for the other three. The out of state testings have involved hotel stays. After giving up on our public school district, I started registering him for private schools in major metropolitan areas. These schools always seem to test. The ACT is not requiring religious reasons for Sunday testing, and is booking large banquet areas in hotels to give the test to hundreds of kids at a time. Standardized testing in the year of COVID-19 can be done, but it requires elbow grease and creativity.

Ye, I had the same situation happen to me but I've only gotten one in and hopefully another next Saturday.....I wish I could travel outside of the city but having the money to do so and being able to secure the seat is a struggle.

Please skip this post if you're just looking for a hug or for someone to tell you it's OK to fail here.

I see a lot of posts that call out the challenge of getting an SAT exam scheduled and completed. I understand - you have my compassion. but folks you are either going to drive to a result or an excuse on this, and the stakes are too high. I spent 3 years having less than 200.00 to my name - it's rough, but You can do it.

If you have trouble getting to a different city for an exam, have you:
1. Gotten a flexible part-time job? Instacart etc. to get the funds you need.
2. Organize a day-trip with others who want to take the test - share costs (gas) with 5 of you in a car. Make PB&Js and get a case of water for 3.00.
3. Discuss your goal with your HS administration - ask for their support. Maybe they have a school bus large budget they are paying but aren't using due to covid - can they get you a driver and some time?
4. Discuss your goal with your area school foundation - the folks who seem to donate when people need help, new uniforms, etc.
5. Discuss your need with every coach and pep band leader, martial arts instructor - ask for their guidance on how to raise 80.00 or whatever you would need.
5. Organize a fundraiser at a mall, outside of a costco, etc. Make some poster boards and make an appeal.
6. Organize a go-fundme page.
7. Ask your church for support or fundraising ideas - l*rd knows the church knows how to ask for money in ever-creative ways.
Prioritize - you might have to miss a football practice to go insta-carting. Which is more important to you - keep your eye on the prize.
8 Cancel netflix. look at discretionary moneys and make hard choices.

If you do all of that, I don't see a reason why you cannot make this work. If you still have trouble PM me and I will help you come up with a plan and we can organize a meeting with your HS and advocate on your behalf. I will help you write a letter to your local news outlet to get coverage on a funding need. But you need to take the first several steps. I am not going to do this for you as I wouldn't for my own children.

I hope those parents and students who are complaining about how Navy or Army or Air Force needs to bend or lower their standards to them please stop. Please advocate and support your children as they pursue this opportunity to serve. Please stop coddling them with your excuses. It's like some of you see a hill in front of you are asking for the incline to be less steep. Pushing the military to your needs is often like pushing a rope. Not a lot of return no matter how loud you complain. They are making concessions - affording more time in some cases. They are not beholden to make this easy for you.

To those on the board, if I can recommend, let's help those willing to help themselves- I will help, help yourselves, and let's get this done. Honestly those putting energy into whining need to just look in the mirror and understand your excuse-focused attitude is going to cause you to not overcome this challenge, and fail. As an outsider it's jumping off the page what's happening. You can watch your DD/ DS' classmates and area young people get the 200k check and free education, and opportunity for an awesome career. Again, if you are sincere and need guidance or help, LMK. For others, please knock off the excuse focus.

OK, where's that little footstool so I can get off this soap-box?

No need to lower standards, just the hope they understand the situation that's all. I, personally, have been scheduling every test I can but can't control covid cases, doing the best with what can be controlled.

I am on my virtual lunch break from virtual classes and saw this. I am in southeastern PA and tests are on. There are at least a dozen schools offering the test on Dec 5. These 3 schools listed on top are all within 20 minutes once you cross the DE/PA line. I am in northern VA all the time for my club sport and it's under a 5 hour drive to Charlottesville and I live north of all of these schools.

Read my post above somewhere. The Army “understands” and really doesn’t care right now. In March there will be a part of the board for those with cancellations and who knows what will happen. Maybe they will be understanding or maybe they won’t. Its the Army, its bigger than any one person. And if you can’t take the test there are 3 other as deserving students who have.

I wasn't trying to prompt that kind of response....just being a little expressive seeing as there are other candidates in the same boat. Nobody can predict what will happen.
