^^ And the study was done for USMA ......NOT USNA. You can't assume everything about the application process is the same. Many individuals apply to both SA's in the same year and get an appointment to one, but the TWE from the other, so obviously there are differences. Quibbling about how many points SHOULD be awarded for Boys State vs. Eagle Scout is pointless since none of us has any ability to change that. No single activity/accomplishment/award results in an automatic appointment to ANY SA.
Back to the OP's original question. Regardless of whether or not you are a BGO, exactly what did the person who first told you of this situation expect you to do about it? Stating that someone MAY have influenced the situation also sounds like conjecture. I think the best advice I have read thus far is to advise the applicant to focus on what they can control and ignore outside 'noise'.
