They are ALL Student whatevers until they are winged.
Got it, makes sense, just haven't heard my DS or buddies mention that acronym. I mean it makes sense, they have a lot of learning to do before they can fly a plane!

Here’s your ProKnow. At this stage, he can’t lift his head high enough to see that far down the road except wings of gold somewhere along the way.

Will it really take almost 2 years for SNA/NFO to start flight school after commissioning?

Heard gouge is that blockage is in process of being fixed. Expect some announcement in future from CNATRA or some NAVAIR star with some training change or enhancement that is meant to ease pressure on the NIFE instructors and open up new avenues for sitters and waiters. But I am lowly new SNA select in his 1/C year so that could be a fairy tale meant to ease my mind.

Squad leader graduated SOAS, earned his opportunity to select it as his first option, and got SWO. Absolutely gutted for him. We got 19/29 Mids who got their first option. 1 Crypto and 1 IW as well.

... The one person in tears this year was a female sub draftee who wanted SWO-1160. However, details about the bonuses and higher pay for the submariners, like that whispering voice from field of dreams, “eased her pain”.

That is the first I believe I've heard of female sub draftees. I thought the conventional wisdom was that there were generally more women requesting than the few number of slots. Does that indicate enough slots have opened up or just a rare year with fewer requested?

A cadre member noted this was the first he'd seen a female sub draft, too. Experts can please confirm but my understanding is that there will be increasing numbers of slots for women in the submarine fleet. There are at-present specific subs that have "accommodations" (living and bathroom facilities) to house female and male crew members on the same sub, and some subs that at-present do not. A recent article stated enlisted women currently serve aboard four guided-missile submarines and one ballistic-missile submarine, that means the majority of active subs are male-only staffed until changes are made/ new subs enter into service.

It's been stated that female crew slots will increase as additional subs come online. Specifically, guided-missile submarines (SSGN) and ballistic missile submarines (SSBN) (boomers) at present have female crew enablement (can have female crew - I don't know the current roster of each sub). Going forward, all future Columbia-class ballistic missile submarines and all Virginia-class fast attack submarines, starting with the USS New Jersey (SSN 796), will have enlisted women options in their crews. The U.S.S. Wyoming is the only sub that as of a few months ago went to sea with an female crew. Perhaps more subs may soon have all female crews with the existing setups, which would open up even more opportunities for female sub officers and crew.

Results I read on FB for an in state unit:

9 Subs
8 Pilots
6 SWOs
1 NFO
1 SEAL

Subs quite popular it seems.

And is he a happy camper?
He will be.

He got his second choice - which had been his first choice for the past year. He added his first choice at the very end after a professor talked to him - there was only one slot available.

I know that, at least last year, in some situations, people who were getting a different path than expected, were notified before the masses…..could be the situation for your son? Gives them time to adjust expectations.

Very glad to hear he is happy! So exciting!!!!

Lol my understanding is he was included on an email that he shouldn’t have been. ;)

It is connected to his major and he spent a month after he was company commander this past summer with this community.

I was teasing him the other night that he won’t get any of his choices and they will put him in the marines. He said he would be happy with marines. He is blocked from all the good ones anyway because he is colorblind.

I thought your son is at USNA? Am I missing something?
