SHAME SHAME on this person for doing this!! ( & request for rumor control)

Not great, but not worth getting upset about.

Also visiting your plebe during church deserves far less reprimand than ketchup on a hot dog.

For the uneducated:

Sesame bun
Boiled dog (Vienna beef, Hebrew National, or Nathan’s)
Mustard
Sweet radioactive green relish
Sport peppers
Pickle spear
Tomato wedge
Diced onion
Celery salt

Optional (but recommended):

Bleacher seats
Cubs W
Cold beer

All this talk of hot dogs as we joyously unravel whatever thread we are in, led me to make - what else - a meal last night involving just plain dogs.

Setting aside the iconic hot dog-in-bun controversy, I did this with Ball Park All Beef dogs last night as a dinner plate:

- Split longwise and grilled both sides, filled with mini-cubes of pepper Jack allowed to melt and fresh chopped Vidalia onion, a lively smear of Kosciusko spicy brown mustard and a spoonful of homemade bacon ketchup, which I make every summer. It tastes nothing like store-bought ketchup (google home made bacon ketchup, find a recipe that appeals, make a batch to your taste, enjoy with grilled meats, store in reefer for a week or so). No buns last night, just dogs and fun stuff. But when we do buns, it’s a regional bakery like Martin’s potato long rolls
- Spinach salad with grilled peaches (terrible crop failure in GA this year due to weather, but found some good ones), light touch of balsamic dressing, tarragon. Pita crisps out of the bag.

The one thing about the Portillos dog that I don't like is the poppyseed bun. A sesame bun would be a much better holder for a red hot.
As for cold beer, I can remember when all you could get at Wrigley field was Old Style and it was good!

Also, (for @A1Janitor) I make my own sauerkraut and I do love it on a hot dog with horseradish mustard, onions, and yellow mustard.

I have raved about the great advice y'all give on these forums, but my faith is plum shook.

Dogs must be in steamed buns, with mustard, chili, slaw and onions. There is no other way.

SEVEN SYLLABLES!?!?!?

@Capt MJ, I love you like sister, but you should hang your head in shame.

You're not the first haiku writer I've caught trying to sneak in an extra syllable or two. Where are the moderators?
Extra syllables in haiku is not a violation of the forum rules. 😆

Slaw dogs are the best dogs:

All Beef hot dog- natural casings ones if available
no bean chili from a can (because I'm classy)
cole slaw
spicy mustard

Yum Yum good!!

Boiled Kirkland beef dogs,
toasted wheat bread and ketchup.
Tres gauche comfort food.

Sorry, had to weigh in on the Great Hot Dog Debate. Now back to my self-imposed haiku hiatus. (It’s killin’ me, by the way!)

I’m shocked and appalled that I don’t recall seeing bacon as a must-have!

Nathan’s hot dog
Bacon
Cheese
Chili (or A1)

Hot dogs on hot grills,
Plebe summer, king hall serving,
Strength found in each bite.

All of you rookies with your ridiculous imitations of what a REAL Hotdog can be which starts with cooking it and then proceeds to the add-ons.

Bottom line though, if it isn't a "Ripper", it isn't much of a hotdog
