Just curious, I’ve watch several ship selections in YouTube. Mids like to pick Rota, Bahrain, Sasebo, as well as Norfolk and San Diego. Pearl Harbor is not the favorite among the first mids to go on stage. I’m thinking “wow”, there are so many ships and no takers. Is it really ship selection week?

Submarine officers choose their submarine ("boat") during their last school training which might be either Submarine Officer Basic Course or prototype training. Before that they would have completed nuclear power school. Midshipmen in the submarine pipeline for the Class of '22 will start negotiating for a nuclear power school class start date in Charleston, SC.As a Plebe parent I will be watching intently and will have to make sure I take my allergy medicine to prevent watery eyes. DS (right now, may change) is heading full steam to SWO so interested in this process.
What do the submariners do for ship selection?
