    Hi all,

I was a candidate for USAFA last year, had a principle nomination, a medical waiver, and my ALO was almost sure that I would be offered an appointment. About a week after all the budget cuts happened I got that letter that starts out "we regret to inform you..." It all worked out in the end because I got a scholarship from AFROTC to go to Virginia Military Institute. I am in the middle of reapplying for this coming year to the Academy and am sure I want to reapply, but not sure that I want to through away all I've accomplished here at VMI to go to the Academy and start all over. They say VMI is the toughest school in the country, but I'd rather have a guaranteed commission and job waiting for me at the end of the tunnel if you know what I mean. Can I get some opinions out there? Stay? Don't stay? Any opinion is welcome. Thank you.

    Very Respectfully,
    A very stressed Rat

No one here can tell you what to do. It is your decision only. If you're looking for life advice I would talk to personal friends and mentors. They are more invested in your interests than strangers on an internet forum.

Do what you feel is right.

One point. If you indeed had a principal nomination and all waivers, then there's no way you could not have received an appointment. Not possible. You had to have some other thing that made you unqualified. Unless you no longer had the principal nomination because you weren't qualified at the time and they gave it to someone else. Either way, I always recommend reapplying if the academy is a dream you want to pursue. Best of luck.

I am with AFrpaso and USAFA83

It sounds like you have made up your mind and only you know how you will feel on your commissioning day or later on in life.

    Will you wonder What IF?

Trust me when you get to your folks age it is the What IFs we think about, just as much as the joys we have experienced.

If you had a principal and have cleared through your medical issues, than chances are in your favor to get the nominations, even if not principal. Your PAR/ECs had to be strong enough to give you a principal and it should translate as a collegiate candidate.

Best of luck. Thank you for your desire to serve this great nation.

Remember whichever decision you choose, sometimes it is the destiny or fate that is your path which you have 0 control over. IOWs don't live your life with WHAT IF?
