Shutdown and pay for students...

honestly at end of the day not one gubbamint employee will lose one dime in pay - at worst it'll be a little late

Doesn't most of their paychecks go to paying back the CG for Uniforms, haircuts, laptop, sports fees....etc? At least the 4th and 3rd Class are paying all that. My DS complains because he says he can never get a haircut at the Barber Shop and he ends up paying off base for one.

Not quite as simple as your statement reads.

Out of the the Government employees effected only a portion continue to work without pay, these employees will only receive their back pay if the Congress approves the payment.

The other large number of Government employees effected are on furlough without pay, they are not reporting to work and will not be paid for their time off, so yeah, a little more then one dime.

If this shutdown continues to a point these working employees do not receive a paycheck, they still have bills to pay, many live paycheck to paycheck. This disruption can cause some issues even though it is likely they will eventually receive their pay. The furloughed workers are not so lucky.

I believe your son is attending the Citadel, remember one day soon he'll be a "gubbamint" employee.

No it pretty much is that simple - congress will vote back pay - they've done it every time in the past and will surely do it again

Maybe contracted workers might get stuck but I suspect many of the contracting companies will cover them with 'bench pay'

I'll agree with you there, it's pretty bade optics if they don't.

Of the 300K Federal workers that have been furloughed, the vast majority are not just contracted workers. While the small percentage of contract workers may get some payback, the majority will be left holding an empty bag.

Back to the cadets...I don't think they'll need their pay unless they're sending it home to support their families. In other words, they should be OK esp. as military is unaffected...& a 2.6% raise is on the way!

True. USCG falls under Homeland Security so they're affected.
