To all who post, many thanks. As a father, I read and read, and read more, back many pages. The USMA section of the academy forums was above and beyond informative. In many ways it helped him prepare and answered absolutely every question he and I had.

Son just accepted the offer of appointment that went live this morning online through his candidate portal. What a fantastic day! Class of 2023!

Congratulations! May I ask if your son was a recruited athlete? I'm curious if appointments to non-athletes have started to go out to candidates. Congrats again, so exciting!

Yes, he is a recruited athlete.

It is a feeling of mixed emotions as a parent. I'm certain that the entire range of emotions have hit, except those in the anger family, from the time he started the summer seminar applications January of his junior year to now, his acceptance, a total of eleven months. And again, the hours and hours of reading these posts, but never posting, were so very helpful. Now I've got to absolutely stop watching the 2017 CBS Army v Navy introduction and the R-Day and plebe videos. They're doing a number on me!

Thanks to all for the congrats.

And per these boards, I believe he can expect the big fat envelope this week, but I have to go back through the forum to check on that. Again, the beauty of reading the experiences of others.

We know there are many lurkers who read the forums, so it’s nice to see you jump in. I hope you contribute as you can, because it will be fresh experience.

@dieselvaden, I have watched that 2017 Army Navy game promo more times than I care to admit. I was slightly disappointed in this year's version however it is hard to top 2017. Regardless, knowing that my son will be in those stands next year made the game extra special for me. Congrats to you and your family!

Agreed, the 2017 version was outstanding, 2018 not so much.

@dieselvaden, once my DD has made her decision (it was down to USNA and USMA, with USAFA a step behind), we held a post-dinner ceremony. We played that 2017 video, and there wasn’t a dry eye at the table. At the conclusion, I said to DD, “Are you sure?” She confidently nodded and says, “Yes.” Then she pushed the appropriate button on the portal. That only prompted more tears from Mama. At the A-N game of plebe year, DD said, “I can’t believe I’m finally here. It’s surreal.”

Hello, anyone heard of getting a LOA and then a congressman not nominating them?? My son has received his LOA, and is waiting for his congressional nomination.
He feels great about the LOA , but what if?????

It happens. You can read about it here every year. A nomination could eventually come from elsewhere. But this is why one should always have a Plan B.

Contact your Congressman and let them know you have received an LOA. If they have not nominated him yet maybe they can.
IMHO it's worth a shot!

Congratulations on the appointment. What state and district are you from? We have a firstie and a senior in high school that has a senatorial nom, but hasn't heard on appointment yet, but as many have said, it is still very early, esp for non-recruited athletes. We are from Birmingham, AL. We also lead the parents club here, if you have any questions. Thanks.
