I learned that the service academies have groups of cadets who train together to prepare for special operations selection and their respective communities. After doing some googling I found that several ROTC units also have something similar. I was wondering if anyone knows what units offer this opportunity particularly in California and Maryland. Thanks!

I can’t speak to specific university programs, but I imagine a lot has to do with size of programs. I will say with the location of Maryland, Stew Smith runs his prep program out of Annapolis and you would have access to his program, even if not daily. Also with promixity to the USNA you might be able to do some training there. Follow Stew on social media and you will get a good idea of his programs.

If you are thinking AROTC:

I know some NROTC programs have clubs to prep for BUDS and hopefully SEALS. I know South Carolina has a program that was terminated in 2014 or 15. I've lost touch so it may have been reinstated. I don't know what other colleges have programs.

I doubt there is a list that shows what units have a club for special operations. Your just going to have to contact the units and ask. Starting with the larger units would be my starting point.

Virginia Tech has organizations for Air Force special operations prep and Army Ranger Company. At some point during my time here there was a Navy special ops prep group, however I'm not sure they're officially recognized by the unit anymore. All have a challenging selection process.

My ROTC unit (50-70 students depending on the year), did not have one. A motivated 3/C made one, with the help of the Marine Corps officers, and got a couple of other people to join. Fast forward a few years, that motivated 3/C was selected for SEALs! If you want one, I'm sure your unit will help you/ support you.
