Spring break

It’s hard to believe those Plebes who left for Spring Break in 2020 and didn’t return that academic year will soon be commissioned officers!
Indeed! It all seems so long ago now. I believe the Covid experience will make them more resilient, more empathetic, more effective officers than they might have been otherwise.

How things have changed in three years. Mids are enjoying spring break and figuring to return to Mother B this weekend for the stretch run to Commissioning Week.

Just three years ago, DD spent spring break scuba diving in Florida. Toward the end, she called home to say, “They’re shutting down the Yard and sending us home.” Things didn’t return to “normal” for another year. Sigh. 😕 Embrace the present, for we know not what the future brings.
Boy, I sure do remember that.

Bancroft frozen in time until the following plebe summer. Rotten food. Rooms cleared out and packaged up and stored. Stuff lost and broken. Mids stayed home the following semester.

A HUGE observation of adapt and overcome. And Semper Gumby…..

The moldy spore laden oranges and the single scoop of white rice stick in my mind. The grey cloud of mold spores was so nasty.

A major Bravo Zulu to all who experienced that and still showed up to sign their 2/7, commission, and become officers in the fleet.

Their challenges and experience with that hell will make them better officers. Resilient, empathetic, problem solving, obstacle busting junior officers. Taking care of their people will be paramount. They’ve lived the crap and saw what it did to their shipmates. They will excel.

The scariest adventure mine had was having to watch his littlest bro on Saturday night and try to get him to go to bed while wife and I went into Baltimore for an axe throwing party with our friends!

At 1030, the dude still wasn't asleep and our Plebe had to run interference and use all of the skills he learned during the year to stay patient with the little turd and get him to settle. ;)

(Littlest one eventually fell asleep on the couch, and the mid carried him up gently and got him into his bed).

Would that be… “DLT?”

Also, very grateful DS chose to buy and wear a helmet for his first snowboarding event. Based on the pictures, it was a good call. No concussions and no damage to the brain trust. View attachment 13705
thank goodness he wore a helmet!!! snow boarding is not easy and when you fall you fall hard!! so glad he had a great time!! mine was in Annapolis all week for spring break since they are in season right now - and it was her birthday but they had fun at practice and had 2 games. she did say to me a couple of weeks ago that she couldn't believe she would never have a spring break again!! ha!
