Start checking NROTC portal!!

Good luck, TheCadet!! I honestly don't know. It showed up on the NROTC website for my son on February 8th. The problem is I can't tell you if that was from a February board or maybe the January board. I wish I could help.

How long does it take for you to be notified if you did or did not receive a scholarship? From what I understand the board for MO meets today and I am anxious about finding out.

My son did not get a final, negative reply, until mid-April. Have plan B ready so you can just pull the trigger if necessary. mid-April leaves plenty of time to execute plan B if it is already in place.

Wow, I can't believe it takes that long to get a negative reply. Is it pretty much safe to assume that if I don't hear anything in the next few weeks I didn't get it?
I wish this whole system could be more efficient. I don't really have high hopes for getting a scholarship. I am almost waiting more for a negative reply just so I can finalize my other plans instead of just waiting..and waiting...and waiting. :p

I understand. We went through it too... but Patience with a capital P is the order of the day here. You don't have to make a decision until mid April and perhaps later. If you have your plan B in place, let it go until then. I know you want some peace of mind, or at least know what your future is, but there is no real advantage to rushing to a decision other than you'll feel better about it. I expect you don't even have all your financial aid info to hand yet, and many schools do not send that out until April 1. Wouldn't you like to wait and gather all the facts to make an informed decision?

Reply to the Cadet

Waiting a long time does not always mean a negative reply. My DD was informed April 29th 2012 that she had received a NROTC LREC scholarship. With college deposits due to most schools on May 1, we did have some last minute scrambling to receive deposits back from schools that she would not be attending after she received the scholarship. That kind of scrambling is in a positive way at least.

So have a back-up plan in place - but you never know until the fat lady sings! (Do kids even know what that means anymore?)

Hoping for good news for you!

LOL...yes, I know the carriers are nukes...its been all over the News about a carrier missing its scheduled rotation to the Persian Gulf because the Navy can't afford to "refuel" it due to a lack of funds. :thumb:

Status changed today

Status changed today for DD - Denied!

Ouch, it's okay. She's been accepted to USMMA and has nomination to USNA.

Sorry to hear that, Mman5247. But I'll bet anything she's going to do well at the USMMA or the USNA. On a side note, I didn't think they "denied" anyone until after the last board met. I guess I had that one wrong.

My DS status was also changed to denied too. He probably wouldn't have taken it anyway since he got his first choice, AROTC.

Thank you very much. He is thrilled and we are very proud of him. His nickname since he was a little boy was "Colonel" since he always thought he was in charge of everything and did a great job commanding his little brothers! Who knows, he may grow into a real one in a few years.

Looks like MO was pushed back a week...DS received an email stating this Sat. is last day for MO applicants to do PFT.

DS got a negative but he has already accepted a USNA appointment anyway. When we were at the Academy in Jan, I asked one of the officers about the NROTC scholarship and I was told that our geographic area was a huge negative because our schools are considered academically sub par but a big positive for USNA because we are in a low competition area. He made a point to say that it was no reflection on our DS, even went so far as to say that he believed that if DS had opportunity to attend a more challenging school he would have done even better on SAT/ACT and higher GPA because he would have been more challenged. We are from a rural high poverty area trying to catch up with the rest of the state and country academically. Many good, intelligent kids here but not many funds to have honors, AP, or gifted programs to challenge them.

That is a frustrating scenario, NROTCHOPEFULDAD. Congratulations on the USNA appointment. What an honor.

Ours Too

Our DS also was denied today. NMF, stellar SAT/ACT, lots of AP, 4.17 GPA, has a nomination to USMA (3q + LOE) and USNA, and both AROTC and AFROTC scholarships. First choice is WP. Will likely take the AROTC if both academies fall through. It does take his top choice civilian schools out of the picture though due to cost.

Feel sorry for him but glad the wait is over. Door closed, Lord.

Lots of good candidates will probably be left out this year.

What were his scores, major, schools? Same GPA, 650 Math and 640 CR with a Tier 2 major to OOD CU Boulder over here. Congrats on everything else, not the best news we wanted to hear huh?

Thanks Kinnem, and thanks for all your help throughout this whole process!
