Congrats!! When did he complete his scholarship app?
Hi! So his application process last year was: completed USNA application early September; NROTC- the day it was due
He was completely set on USNA and I think he did not want to consider AT ALL, the possibility that he would not get in. It is not that NROTC was not an option- it was just not his first choice. To all applicants- and I am sure that this has been said by others!! I would recommend that if the ultimate goal is NAVY- cover all your bases. I think its possible that his late application to NROTC last year made him less competitive for that option, and left him starting in the college program where he was enrolled- without a guarantee of commission, and then having to pursue some other option to get there (maybe OCS after enlistment?).
This year, after recovering from the TWE (took about a six weeks ) he approached the recruiter in late May, just prior to HS graduation and already committed to college. The recruiter's advice was to get the NROTC application in as soon as the site opened. DS probably submitted it within 2-3 weeks of that so maybe July 1. USNA application was completed for this year as well, late August once his class schedule for college was available. So, that is it. Received scholarship notice yesterday!!
