Still on the island thread

D22, hang in there. DS has not rec'd anything official yet regarding wait list and one of the mods thinks those letters will go out next week. I hope our BGO was right as DS' RD hasn't said anything to him.
The fact that we have not rec'd a TWE at this point is a hopeful sign. There is still a chance.

I'm assuming the National pool has offered appointments and DS is on the NWL, therefore the odds aren't in DS' favor.

From what I've heard they are still working out congressional slates as of sometime last week, though that should be done very soon. Which means national pool appointments may have not got out yet. PLUS even if they have gone out in the past few days, the (not small) BFE could be in the mail for 1-2 weeks. Not to mention the 1 week courtesy delay given to nominating offices before they are even mailed.

In conclusion, don't be a debbie downer, it makes the rest of us sad :)

Well the waiting is getting to DD. She just had a mini meltdown. Heartbreaking to watch helplessly. :-(. She is fretting that a handful of her JROTC classmates have already received their appointments (not sure if this is true), and she is doubting herself immensely. I tried to assure her she wasn't alone, but her pain won't let her see that. Mind you, she doesn't even have a TWE yet.... As many of you have I am certain, she has worked tirelessly for 4 years toward the goal of USNA. Since her friend received word last Friday, I am thinking DD should hear something tomorrow..... I don't know how I will pick up the pieces if she gets the TWE...... Lord, please help her through this......

Thank you all for your kind words. This is one of the reasons why it's such a bummer that the academy will lose quality young men and women-- they're a reflection of their parents. Think it would be too much to ask for a west coast Naval Academy? The decommissioned Alameda NAS would be a perfect place.

After DS attended NASS, it was apparent that he wasn't the only unique candidate who was working hard to make his dream come true. That was my epiphany (and solace) of how well admissions puts together a class of ~1135 from thousands of applicants to meet the needs of the navy--not an easy task. I shared my thoughts with DS, and he agreed that there were a lot of candidates (including him) who deserved to be there, but may not be possible due to the numbers. I'm blessed with a son who does not live his life with envy, but instead with gratitude and appreciation of others talents.

Right now DS is focused on helping his swim team win a championship, has added studying for AP exams on his academic 'to do' list, enjoying his senior year, and he's very excited about his alternate plan A. NROTC in San Diego. He might apply to the c/o2020, but my gut tells me he's going to like his unit.

Even though Debbie Downer and I are BFF:p, what I posted earlier was echoed by usnabgo08 this evening on the, Wait List Question thread. I realize there's always a chance, but the reality was apparent at CVW and NASS that the numbers game would ultimately win the battle, and DS who'll commission...will win the war. DS-1, Academy-0...take that academy! ;)

DS is a happy, easy going kid who found solace months ago. I feel awful for the TWE recipients who deserve a spot, but lost out to a numbers game, and I sincerely hope all will find peace and comfort in the days to come. :)

Just received an email from BGO (after I reached out to him) saying that DS has been wait listed. 1300 appointments have been offered and they expect 1165 to accept. They will fill back to 1300 from the wait list. We're in the car now, heading to Cornell to visit the campus and ROTC unit, as the scholarship office is happy to transfer his Scholarship from Penn State if he so chooses. Plan B still to be decided, but at least we have a direction! Big brother (USNA class of 17) is disappointed that he won't be able to torture his little brother during plebe summer by sending giant stuffed animals to him, but says Cornell is a great alternative! Best wishes to everyone still awaiting news... My assumption from what BGO said is that all BFEs are out. Wait listed appointees might not know until June
Augh! This may have been the worst news I have read on the forum since joining. :(

"1300 appointments have been offered and they expect 1165 to accept"

I think that's conjecture at this point, not fact e.g. I don't believe NAPS, Foundation and CPP candidates know there status yet nor that "all BFE's are out". It's the 3rd of April, not the 3rd of May or June.

what's done is done and our DS/DD have put their best forward. Though a long shot, my DS said that he is sticking with it until the very end and who knows, may find himself off of that wait list and taking the Oath of Office on IDay in July. Does it hurt that he was wait listed...yes...am I proud of my DS...you better believe I am...to have some 17,000-20,000 students apply to the USNA for the Class of 2019 and he finds himself on the wait list (which from what I am gathering is not a large number) is amazing and something to be proud of. It has been a wonderful ride watching him transform from a kid to a young man...this has been priceless.

If it is conjecture, it is not mine, but that of our BGO. Truly not trying to upset anyone.... We were relieved to have a bit of finality so that DS can move on to plan B without feeling as if he still had significant skin in the game at USNA. Waitlist is a long shot, so he is at peace now. I wish that same feeling for everyone in the same boat.

Amen,NavyMom19.

If 1165(target class size) out of that 1300 accept, no one comes off the wait list unless one of them loses their appointment for some reason.

NAPS, Foundation and CPP are not appointments to USNA.

All OP gtw relayed was what BGO knew about appointment offers to USNA.

I think what was meant that current NAPS and Foundation students have not received their appointments. Which is true. They usually are the last to hear. But USNA also knows the size of those classes and who is cutting it at this point, so they know within a dozen or so spots who will be attending or not.

Sounds like they are expecting a very high yield, 1165/1300 = 89.6%, which would be in line with recent trends.
