Flying this afternoon to Colorado Springs with my DD for our first visit to the Air Force Academy. Doing the official tour tomorrow and women's basketball game on Saturday. What else should we do to get the full experience?

Super excited mom and daughter!!! :shake::shake::shake:

I don't know that there is much more you can do to get the "full experience" but I suggest that you and your DD be very careful not to fall in love with the campus as a reason for going... she should fall in love with the cadet experience and wanting to be a USAF officer. Other than that, have fun and safe travels!

The Wing Open is tonight which is the culminating event for the boxing teams tournament. There will be several thousand cadets there in attendance tonight. It starts at 1900 in Clune Arena and I believe admission is free.

Very cool...

Thanks for the heads up. We may have to check that out. What a great way to jump in feet first!

Make sure you sit with cadets and don't be shy about asking them questions about their experiences! Their uniforms will indicate their class, as their perspectives will be different depending on their class. Also, make sure you have your daughter talk to other female cadets, who are usually very open and frank about what life is like at an institution where the gender gap is big! As others have said, your daughter needs to fall in love with the USAFA experience, not just the campus! Enjoy yourself!

You MUST visit the Garden of the Gods! It's not too far away but it is beautiful. Keep us updated!

Don't forget to explore Colorado Springs

There is plenty to see on campus and people have already made some great suggestions. I would add to that that you should explore the area around Colorado Springs, i.e. Garden of the Gods/Red Rocks, the city, Pikes Peak. That too is part of the four years a cadet spends at the academy.

Go to the Chapel and walk in, it is beautiful. Go to the Visitor's Center. My wife hasn't been there since last fall, they surely have re-stocked the shelves by now.

Congrats to you both.

Thanks all!

Thanks for the suggestions. We took the advice and went to the Wing Open. Sat with cadets and my daughter chatted with them. Tour tomorrow along with soccer game tomorrow and basketball game Saturday. Lots of time to talk to cadets.

It was comforting for her to hear laughter and see the cadets kicked back and enjoying themselves and texting with their friends!:wink::wink:
