Summer Seminar and Preliminary Application Confusion

Hi All, I submitted my USNA Summer Seminar application on March 27th and haven't received word about it yet. I was wondering if this is normally how long it takes for review of the application. Also, I know the responses in the Summer Seminar app carry over to the Preliminary Application, but I don't know how to create an account in the application portal to view my Preliminary Application status. I'm assuming I will get an email about next steps to take, but I just wanted to know if I'm doing the most I can at this stage in the process. Thanks!

yeah i submitted my summer seminar app on feb 28th and i finally got accepted a few days ago. i think you'll know for sure by april 15th! im not sure how to help with the preliminary app though.

Responses for applications do typically take several weeks if not months so know that the wait is normal. You will not be able to make a portal until they have accepted you as a candidate which will likely not happen until you receive word on your NASS application. You have done all you can, now just continue to do well in high school. Good luck!

That's only a week ago. I wouldn't count on an answer soon. You might luck out, but it will likely be a while. The April 15th date is for candidates, not NASS applicants. My son attended NASS last summer and applied in January when it opened. He got his assignment in mid to late April.

You can't create an account now. Your portal will become available in May. There is truly nothing else to do right now other than maybe start working on your personal statement and talking to teachers that you might ask to complete the reference portion. Also note, they are not traditional letters of recommendation. USNA requests their email address and will send them something to complete. So they can't really start on anything now but at least if you ask them now, they will know it's coming. You could also start looking into what your MOCs require in terms of nomination applications. Likely letters of recommendations and essays. Those are the things you can do now.

Thanks for the response and congrats on getting accepted!

big help, thanks!

what is a MOC?
There are hundreds of acronyms that go along with this process. Recommend you check out the pinned acronym list (not at home, any other forum Yoda feel free to post the link).

In addition, before asking a question see if you can use your super sleuth skills and search the forum for an answer. Great practice for valuable and much sought after skill.

Since you submitted your application a little later in the process, I would expect a decision around the April 15th deadline. Just be aware that your likelihood of acceptance decreases the later you apply since the Seminar process is rolling admissions. This also applies to the full application, so submit early so you can solve any DoDMERB headaches! You probably won't hear back from USNA about 2028 applications until they've finished the 2027 cycle. If all goes well, this is usually around May, but last year it took till mid-June for most to have their candidate info. For perspective, USAFA doesn't open their apps until July.
