2 days until I leave for Session A! Anyone have any last minute tips or packing suggestions?

Summer Seminar was amazing! I am definitely going if I am lucky enough to get an appointment.

Summer seminar was awesome! I wish Doolie for a day had lasted longer, though.

Any recommendations? My son is currently at West Point SLS. He did Navy NASS last week and loved it. But his first choice is definitely AF. So far he is not caring much for WP at all (unfortunate, since his dad and I are grads!). Anything he needs or doesn't need or should be prepared for? Thanks!!

The PT at air force is not too hard. However, when you run the mile in the practice CFA in the DRY field house at a VERY HIGH altitude, it will feel like much longer than a mile. Remind him that almost everyone does about 1.5 minutes worse on that practice mile than usual and not to get discouraged; it is why they don't count it as a real CFA.

We can't give too much away because that would ruin the surprise on Doolie for a Day (the cadre did not let us see the schedule at all), but I can give a few hints.

1) Give 100% effort and support your element completely on Doolie day. You are only as good as the weakest team member, so if someone is struggling, HELP THEM! We literally pushed a few team members up a hill during running and we all felt great afterward because we used teamwork to make it.

2) PT is challenging, but not too bad. The cadets understand that we are not acclimated.

3) Ask all the questions you possible can. The cadre are AMAZING and have really great advice and personal experience stories.

4) Start learning the "mini contrails" immediately. You need it memorized for Doolie for the Day. My roomate and I quizzed each other every night, and we were fine.

4) You are only allowed to wear the issued clothing (shorts, t-shirts, cap, polo, jacket), so the only clothing you bring that you wear is kaki pants. I'd bring at least 2 pairs (if you are on the parade field they get muddy). I'd also bring some undershirts to wear under the polo. We all wore tennis shoes the whole time, so dress shoes really aren't necessary.

5) Make sure you have LOTS of extra room to bring home issued stuff. I brought an extra duffel bag, and that worked fine.

6) Because it was raining when we arrived for session A, we never got a tour of the academy or a chance to visit the C-store. Thus, I never had a chance to spend any money. You probably don't need that much.

7) Have fun! I had a great time, reinforced my desire to attend the academy, and met some great people. Summer seminar was an awesome experience.

I have to ask- did A Flight win the dodgeball tournament? We won it last year in both Session B (mine) and Session A if I remember correctly.

We didn't divide into flights for dodge ball, we just had one massive game. It got pretty intense :yllol:.

Thanks for the advice! I didn't know they got shorts. They did at Navy, not at WP. I'll have him bring some extra white t-shirts. Did you need khaki shorts at all or were pants required?

We only wore khaki pants, not shorts. It would probably be a good idea to bring a belt too, since we tucked in our shirts the whole time. Your son should also bring shower shoes. I hope he has as much fun as I did!

Yeah seminar was great! BTW I was in A flight and I had one of the best element leaders in the summer seminar. hahahaha (element A1 - steaksauce) during doolie when a cadet or officer passed by us we would say "Good Morning, Sir/Maam...... STEAKSAUCE", they were all pleased lol. What element were you, Vampsoul and Falcongirl? Anyways like everyone says, pt wasn't too intense, its just the altitude and dryness makes it a bit harder. Make sure you always drink water. Other than that it was great, and considering my element leader was totally chill and awesome, made it more worth while. He let us play nintendo 64 before taps and the night of doolie for a day, bought us pizza. Hopefully I can make into the academy!

Aaaaah, you guys are bringing back such good memories.
Session A under current Lt. Cowles
A-5 BEASTIES!!!

Last year I *almost* enjoyed doolie for a day, not sure i'll like it quite so much in 2 weeks. But for those who have not yet gone to SS, make the most of it, ask questions, forge friendships. There are people I met at SS last year who i'll be heading back there with in a few days, knowing that there are quality people like that makes heading there so much more comforting.
