Summer Seminar SAT/ACT

Well, in any case, I encourage you to not stress out about it. Again, test scores are updated regularly and the application deadline for your DD is more than a year away. It’s at that point, whatever her scores are, that it really matters.

I'm not sure. She said there was a specific question whether applicants wanted to use SS app as Admissions app. She checked no because of the low scores.
Yes, you can choose whether or not to make it your admissions app. I applied using PSAT scores since I hadn't done the SAT or ACT at that point when I applied Dec of my junior year. I was accepted to SS with my PSAT scores. I took SAT in April, was pleased with my scores, and then sent in the pre candidate questionnaire in May after getting my scores back.

On the Summer Seminar application, are standardized test scores optional? Do they play a big role in the selection process? DD's scores are a "work in progress." Thanks for any advice!
I believe when I went last year they were optional. I myself only submitted preAct score of 24, but had a strong resume and was accepted to go. You need an official ACT score or SAT score to turn the summer seminar application into the applicant application.

I understand it to be that only your pedigree info populates over to your AFA app. In any event you will be taking those tests #'ous times if your scores are low. If you're really concerned, call Admissions for clarification or submit your AFA app separately. Good luck.

Other Academies have no equal yet. USNA has Trident Scholars where all top 15% of the class can be Trident Scholars. You are automatically considered in your 2/C. Trident Scholars participate in independent research and produce their thesis around their research and compete among Trident Scholars for the best research. Tridents are honored at the Academy and throughout their Naval Career. It is proven by Navy stats that Tridents advance significantly better in their Naval Career, many reaching O6 and higher.
Actually, separately from Trident Scholars, USNA does have a program that is fairly quiet but midshipmen who are recognized as having Rhodes, etc potential are tracked, counseled and mentored to help them reach their potential.

My DD applied for Summer Seminar and was denied, she just received her appointment yesterday (Dec 21)

Question: Under the ACT, it asks for all 4 scores and then an "English and Writing" score. Is this the ELA score, or is it the writing score (which would be 1-12)?

1 item to consider: if you apply for summer seminar and use this application as the launching point for your USAFA application then you will most likely have a very early due date for your final application. USAFA uses rolling dates so your application due date will be early November. Just something to consider. You will need to be proactive over the summer and be ready to drive that application home at the beginning of your senior year. CFA, recommendations, evaluations, transcripts, etc. Lots of items that you have to really be on top of (and are often out of your control).
