Summer STEM - Will it happen?

I was accepted into Summer STEM session 3, but my family and I are hesitant about if it will happen. I need to turn in my medical forms to confirm my spot within the next week, so I am planning on turning them in, reserving my spot, and then waiting to buy plane tickets until further notice.

Do you think that if the summer programs are called off this summer, USNA will reschedule or would they cancel them all together?

Yeah don’t by air tickets yet. Decision should be made this week. Personally I would be surprised if Summer STEM still went on. USNA leadership has a lot on its plate right now making sure 2020 graduates and 2024 is inducted. (Those are the Supe’s priorities right now along with keeping his command healthy). Summer STEM is a summer training for rising 3/C midshipmen, and so far we haven’t heard much about what’s going to happen this summer, except that Block 0 is cancelled as are all international programs.

I feel like it will be cancelled. So far, most summer camps are closed that my son has applied to.

If STEM (or NASS, for that matter) doesn't happen as scheduled, seems highly unlikely that it would be pushed to a later date. At the end of June, USNA turns its attention to Plebe Summer. Also, training schedules are calibrated so that STEM detailers are available in a certain time frame. After that, they have other commitments, such as PROTRAMID. Manage your expectations accordingly.

Concur with all...I've received info from reliable sources that decision will be made soon.
I try to avoid speculation, but realistically, NASS and STEM are low on the priority list. (Hint: was NASS /STEM mentioned in the Supe's public statement a few weeks ago ?).

Not speculation: soon to be 3/Cs who drew NASS training block have been told it has been cancelled.
This is not entirely true. My company leadership said that they are taking time with their decision (waiting to see patterns of covid in the coming month) and have not contacted us as detailers that it has been cancelled. I have heard this from some in other companies though, but I think they are jumping the gun although it is likely to happen

Ooof. Yeah, I need to be more cognizant of that, that the different companies get different takes on info and ask my mid what level info is.

If canceled, USNA stated we would get a refund, but also do you think USNA may take into account that I applied and was accepted into this even though I wasn't able to go. For instance would it possibly be easier for me to get into Summer Seminar next summer? Would there be any other benefits for those who were accepted?

I attended Summer STEM a couple years ago and had a lot of fun. However, I have been told that going to STEM may actually lower my chances of getting into NASS (still waiting to hear back) since they are both used for recruitment. It could very well be different for your situation though if you can not go due to COVID-19.

Absolutely none. That is to say, since only a limited number go, they can't give benefits to those that do go. It wouldn't be fair to others. So - your benefit is limited to the benefit of attending.
