T-7 days to Iday class of 2027!!!!

DO YOU SOLEMNLY SWEAR (OR AFFIRM) THAT YOU WILL SUPPORT AND DEFEND
THE CONSTITUTION OF THE UNITED STATES AGAINST ALL ENEMIES, FOREIGN
AND DOMESTIC; THAT YOU WILL BEAR TRUE FAITH AND ALLEGIANCE TO THE
SAME; THAT YOU TAKE THIS OBLIGATION FREELY, WITHOUT ANY MENTAL
RESERVATION OR PURPOSE OF EVASION; AND THAT YOU WILL WELL AND
FAITHFULLY DISCHARGE THE DUTIES OF THE OFFICE ON WHICH YOU ARE
ABOUT TO ENTER, SO HELP YOU GOD.
Funny, but my ‘24 has never raised his hand and said those words….

He will at Commissioning.

You can tell who the ones that were in marching band are.
Having participated in high-level, competitive marching band, few things make me cringe more than seeing a group march out of step — whether with each other or with the music or both.

Some kind of walking-in-rhythm test needs to be incorporated into the SA application. The inability to step to a distinct beat should be a disqualifier. Perhaps replace the CFA basketball throw with a videotaped 100-yard march to a cadence (Candidate may choose from Anchors Aweigh or the Marine Corps Hymn.) 😉🤭🤣

The Oath is read to the Plebes, so all they have to do is say "I do". The officer oath at commissioning is slightly different, because Plebes can't be relied upon to say all the words. ;)

I (name) do solemnly swear (or affirm)…: Signifies a public statement of commitment, where you personally accept complete and total responsibility for your decisions and actions.

…that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States…: You are not swearing to support the President, the Country, the flag, a political party, or a particular service branch. But rather, the Constitution is what you’re swearing an oath to, which symbolizes all of those things.

…against all enemies, foreign and domestic;..: We must always be prepared for current and future wartime operations, kinetic or otherwise, at home and abroad. (Service Before Self, with yourself fully ready)

…that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same;..: Officers pledge allegiance to the Constitution empowering the citizenry, and not a military service branch, government, or organization. (It’s service to our Nation’s Ideas before Self)

…that I take this obligation freely without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion;…: Your word is your bond! Without integrity the moral pillar of any core value is lost.

…and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office upon which I am about to enter.: Promise to give the effort your all. (Anything worth doing is worth overdoing)

So help me God (optional): This signifies truth and commitment to what you have sworn to. It is a higher call to a divine agency. It assists in ensuring your own integrity and honesty for your oath.

Get this, DS is on the yard for Powered Flight. He and his summer roomie found a lost plebe after the oath. He didn't have anyone with him and looked like a deer in the headlights (I know, he really did, DS just sent me a picture of the 3 of them). The kid looks like he was ported by Scotty to another galaxy, seriously. But, he was smiling.

DS and his roomie hung out with him, and offered DS's phone so he could call Mom and Dad. He called both and got their voicemail as they were working so he left a voicemail. DS sent the picture of the three of them and one of the plebe to mom.

The kid told them he had no idea what plebe summer was.

DS asked how he didn't know what plebe summer was. The kid said he didn't know anything about it, just threw his hat in the ring (application) and accepted when he got an offer he never thought he would get. DS said this plebe legitimately has no idea what he has gotten himself into for the next 6 weeks, let alone the next year.

DS and his roomie told him they would check in on him as soon as plebe summer is over. I've got his last name and company, might send him a note with the picture.

Knowing how difficult and thorough the application process is, and the MOC applications and interviews, the BGO interview, and the INTERNET----- I am 100% baffled at how this can happen. Did his parents just think he was going to school? Without a tuition payment plan? I mean if he was smart enough to navigate the application and be academically qualified, he had to have a little curiosity, right? Apparently not.

DS said the kid seemed to have no care in the world, was chilling, and was just happy to be there.

If this kid makes it through four years and commissions, I bet he is a lifer and makes Admiral.

Also, proud of DS and his buddy, they are good eggs.

You have a good son there. Saw a need and took action.

“Also, proud of DS and his buddy, they are good eggs.” ❤️❤️❤️

I mean talk about a decent weather day---- currently 81, projected high of 82 with only 54% humidity. Nice!!!!
That’s a lot better than 2019 when it was in the upper 90s! I live in Houston so I’m accustomed to the heat and humidity, but that day was brutal! Mother Nature made it up to us with an absolutely perfect Commissioning Week this year!
