Hey, very dumb question, but I was wondering as to if one is allowed to get a tattoo prior to entering the academy itself. I currently have none, but have considered getting one. I don't want to violate any rules or expectations of the academy. I've read differing responses online and wanted to ask.
Thank you!

Simple answer——-wait! There are policies, and information requirements on the application. Don’t complicate the process unnecessarily at this time.
You can get one later, there is no rush, and quite possibly you will have a different idea of what you want for a tattoo once you experience Military life.

Yes, you are allowed to. There are some "regulations" around it and I'll let someone more current provide those. Obviously, it can't be "offensive."

Why would you want to get one now? You have the rest of your life to do get one. If it's that important/meaningful today, it will be still be next year and five years from now. Also, worst case (though unlikely) is that it becomes infected before I-Day.

I believe you will need to submit pictures to admissions of your newly acquired tattoo. Heed the above advice and wait until you are past your Plebe year. You never know.

+1 to helmsdown... and you WILL need to submit photos that show its within regs.

My son went nuts after his commissioning. He has thousands of dollars in tats covering mostly legal locations. The skull with crossed machetes next to the 1st Mar Div blue diamond is the logo of the last company in which he commanded. He says he can’t wait to get out so can get tats on his neck. He’s joking. I think. I hope.
