Thank you email?

Hello all,

I recently had my interview with my congressman's panel. Would it be proper to send a thank you email to the staffer/coordinator? I did not meet the congressman himself, and was instead interviewed with 3 panelists.

My DS sent thank you's to the individuals on his interview panel. It seemed appropriate to do a professional follow-up and it never hurts to take the opportunity to remind them of what you hope they remember about you. My impression of the process is it isn't required, like it would be for say a traditional job interview, but as they say, can't hurt. Especially if you have email addresses - easy enough to send a short note of thanks.

Nothing bad ever comes from sending a note of thanks. Make it a habit for any interview you have, from now until you’re no longer doing interviews.

Any advice on sending a thank you if you don't have contact information for the panelists? Would it be appropriate to send a thank you to the general nomination email address (large/competitive state - all done through web portal)?

Yes. Though was there an email from an individual to confirm receipt and/or set up interviews? If so, would send there, thank them for their work as well, and ask them to pass it along.

Absolutely. I also sent a written letter to my MoCs, even though I only physically met with one.

Absolutely. I also sent a written letter to my MoCs, even though I only physically met with one.

I strongly agree to send a hand written thank you note. Way better than an email.
Last year when my DS was going through the process he sent his hand written note to each of his interviewers.

I would be more inclined to send a 'thank you' note IF you get the MOC NOM. If you are simply thanking them for interviewing you, not sure what else you say after............."thank you for the opportunity to be interviewed..........". Likely the contact information is for a staff/administrative person who facilitates NOM applications. Perhaps they would print out your note and add it to your file. I don't recall anyone on here ever saying they met the MOC during the NOM interviews. Typically the process is delegated to various individuals who actually conduct the interviews and likely have some military background.

My son just had his MOC interview 10 days ago. The US Rep was present, along with a panel of 3 SA grads, and a "plant" in the waiting area. The MOC asked as many questions as the rest of the panel. They never supplied their names, so my DS wrote an email thank you to the staffer who facilitated and scheduled the interview and dealt with the application, asking her to send his thanks to the members of the panel. To the MOC, he mailed a handwritten note directly to him, thanking him, etc... My nephew and his fiancé are staffers for reps for 2 different states (not where we live), and this was their exact advice. A nomination just appeared in one of his portals tonight.

I would say it's similar to when people were told to send a note after a job interview. I don't know if that's a thing anymore though. I just thanked them for taking the time to interview me, and to consider me for a nomination. I also reiterated that I was sincere about serving my country and said that if they needed anything else from me, to just let me know. Of course, I knew it was highly unlikely I'd be contacted for anything else, but it seemed like the right thing to say.

If I were to get a nomination, I would also send another thank you note to my nominating MoC to thank them.
