Why are there so many more colleges that have army ROTC compared to the navy and airforce? Especially since the marine corps and navy have so many people?
Why do they need so many more officers than the navy?Army commissions 5500 LTs a year. No one else does that. Requires many schools.
Why don’t they need as many officers? Also, Army is far less stringent on what it's looking for in majors. AF and Navy are looking for STEM majors with a heavy emphasis on engineers. No disrespect to Army, just that a broader range of schools can cover what they are looking for.
I just read navy and marine corps together have more than army. Maybe the site I just read that is wrong?Because Army, ANG, Army Reserves has about 400,000 more soldiers than Navy has sailors.
I know USMC only has about 185,000 active duty and another 100,000 reserve.
That's correct. All NROTC and AFROTC commissioned officers go straight to active duty. They do not have a reserve option (generally speaking). Also, I believe AROTC places relatively far more officers straight into the Reserve components than AFROTC or NROTC. I'm not sure actually if AFROTC or NROTC place any straight into the reserves. I know AROTC does a good number.
A good question for your congressman and senators. Why don’t they need as many officers?
