The cocktail thread (I blame the Rona) - post yours !

You can just put whiskey in cider with a little cinnamon, heat it or not, and have yourself something very tasty. I'm not sure what it was called the first time I had it, but it was an Irish whiskey at a theme bar so I'm sure it was something twee.

Captain Morgan Black with A & W root beer. It’s called a “Chewbacca”

Or, a “Dr. Morgan.” Dr. Pepper and Captain Morgan

Once you try Whisky from Islay, you'll never want to go back to the highlands again. :)

I’ve visited Glenmorangie, Laphroaig and Macallan, but I fear that is too narrow a sample.

Fun fact: If you have never visited a Scottish whisky distillery: no open flames or cell phone usage, even outside, until you are outside a certain radius, the air, building wood, trees, fences, in the immediate area are so permeated with alcohol. After your tasting tour, you don’t notice it.

Surely you've been to Lagavulin. Come on!

Oh! I thought you had previously posted a photo of the white buildings by the water.

Anyone up for a SAF comparative analysis tour of Scotland and its distilleries? I feel I can’t knowledgeably comment unless I am in situ.

I'm in. Spent Thanksgiving week in Scotland a few years back. (Youngest daughter was doing semester abroad), and I made a point of sampling as many different whisky's (no "e") as I could (well, within the practical consideration that I was traveling and couldn't spend all day in the Pubs :) , but typically 2 different drams with dinner each night). I received some good gouge from a Client --the harder the name, the better the whisky. It really was an interesting journey !

My only other gouge for those going to Scotland.... Thanksgiving week (late November) isn't an optimum time to visit. Days were very short, and it rained/drizzled every day. I did learn the value of the high priced Barbour waxed cotton jackets -I've had one for years, but don't use it all that much, as they are good for a narrow temperature range, ie. they are too hot above 40 ish, and not warm enough below 30.. Guess what -- that is exactly the temperature range in Scotland, and it was great.

A friend introduced us to the White Christmas. A delicious dessert cocktail.
1 oz whipped cream vodka
1/2 oz amaretto
1/2 oz baileys
2 oz oat milk
shaken and served in a honey and sugar rimmed martini glass

However, my DH would love to join your scotch club. He's a nothing less than a 12 year kind of snob.

The Whiskey Trail in Scotland is a "must do before you die" if you like Uisge-Beatha.
And now, to quote the late great Michaleen Oge Flynn (RIP)..."...I'll join me friends and talk a little treason..."

At Glenkinchie, the Master of the Quaich that was there at the tasting bar gave me a dram of something I would have never thought I'd enjoy: Cameron Brig, a single GRAIN whiskey.

Sacrilege!!

And then I tried it...

And again...

And again...

It's now in my bar.
