The Reapplying Club

I feel so last minute for only starting to look at NWP now. I checked the curriculum and had a question. Does everyone take every class? Not to be "that guy" but taking that kind of math course seems like it would bore me to death, I'd just keep wishing it was calc 2. But based on my SAT scores, I could really use the vocab class and other reading stuff. I had 700-math 600-reading.
And also, is it too late to apply? I couldn't find a deadline anywhere, and I'm not sure if they're taking applications from HS juniors or seniors or both.

1. RyWalk - University of Central Florida - AFROTC - state scholarship
2. BrianReed - ERAU Prescott - AFROTC
3. flyusaf93 - PSU with AFROTC - AFA application started
4. SaltLife- North Carolina State University- AROTC scholarship- file opened
5. Vamom- Virginia Tech ENG: AFROTC/Corp of Cadets
6. Mattsmom2015 & cgchris99 (son) - MSOE - AFROTC 4yr scholarship
7. delaney (son) - Texas A&M - AFROTC
8. Daniel Kennedy (WKSLP)-USNA or New Mexico Military Institute (1 year Academy Prep Program)(pending a TWE from USNA)
Rywalk. The NWP folks are super nice. Call them and talk to them. I understand from the Falcon folks that NWP is well regarded and their graduates have been very successful. Keep in mind that NWP is only a half year and then you spend your second semester in a local college.

Hey absolutely correct! The durbecks are great people and willing to help. As for class yes everyone takes all the same. If you have more questions feel free to PM me

I called the school and am a little blown away. First of all, the director answered the phone, not a secretary. We talked for a good 20 minutes, she asked me some questions, I got to ask mine. She convinced me that this is a good place to go to, and she made me confident that I could be accepted there. My doubts about the math class are gone, she said that she'd want to see my 700 in math go up to a perfect 800. I'm very impressed and am filling out the application now

And for anyone else who had that same question as me, there is no application deadline.

Will going to a state university rather than a prep school be frowned upon by admissions. I plan on attending my state university and joining the local AFROTC det. also regarding GPA, if I had a 3.5 in HS and I get a 4.0 in my year in college what will the admissions boards look at?

One other question. my SAT is 710 math; 680 CR; 630 writing should I retake it or does admissions even look at standardized test scores for an applicant at a college for a year?

Your academics look really good - you might want to call your ALO and see where you can improve, i.e. EC's.

As for Prep vs. College - I'm sure other's may have some perspective on this. Key is that you need to burnish what you have and continue to excel.

And it never hurts to take the standardized tests as many times as you can to get the best scores. You will be reapplying, so why not? If your later scores are better it can only help you.

Good luck to you! It really takes some personal strength to go through this process again.

The SAT scores really DO go up about that high! I started NWP this past semester with a 670 Math, and got it all the way up to 780! It really is a fantastic program!
Also, the math classes are more or less geared to your level of math. You'd be put into the "Math intensive" group, and do very challenging problems from the 'black book'. I went into NWP with Calculus 1 and 2 under my belt and found the math class to still be extremely challenging!

Agh that black book!! Oh yes the class next semester will have new math books as we got to tear up the old ones and trash em!!
Flyusa--- the choice for college vs prep is a personal choice. You have the ability to get into to the academy from either however prep school is drastically different from college. At NWP at least. Prep is more focused and geared on better preparing you for an academy . The atmosphere for prep is one similar to the academy that no college can ever have which always sets it so different from any regular college. The choice for either is better determined by you ALO as they will have better insight to your final and which would be better for you

I can't remember who it was (probably Flieger or Christcorp), but someone had a checklist of things to do if one was wanting to reapply. I have searched numerous threads and am coming up empty. Would someone please post the link to it or if whoever it was that posted it could do so again, I am sure that all here would greatly appreciate it.

I attended NWP this past year as well. Right now there has been many free agents who have been offered appointments. I believe there are 5 to USMA, 2 to USAFA, 2 to USAFA Prep, 2 to USNA, and 2 to Merchant marine. There were about 25 or so free agents in this years class. And there are still a few that are waiting to hear from the academies. I really enjoyed it at NWP and like many others have said it is a great experience. I have made lifetime friends no matter what academies we end up at or where our paths take us. If anyone has any questions feel free to send me a PM and I will gladly answer them.

For those that know about Northwestern Prep what is their appointment rate for USAFA?

The Falcon rate is extremely high--As the admissions process for 2015 is not done yet, I can't give a valid number, but the year before ours was 100%.

For Free Agents, I'm not as sure. The 75% number rings a bell (Unsure if this number was for acceptance rate to ANY Academy, or for first choice) , but I could be wrong. TLangford might have a more accurate number

I think the USAFA free agent rate is usually 80-90% but again this year is so different. With the reduction of class everyone is being affected even our very qualified free agents. But DJSanguine is correct falcon rate is high and usually 98%

To tlangford and djsanguine: What happens after a free agent is not given an appointment? Are they able to try another year? I was not educated about these schools, but NWP has really impressed me. The whole process as a free agent seems extremely risky though. If you are not given an appointment, you are in a tough spot. I have a question about the Falcon Foundation too: are qualified applicants allowed to receive this scholarship, or is it like the prep school where they choose candidates that had everything but the high standardized test scores? Thank you!

I applied to NWP today, and then talked to the admissions woman today. This seems like an awesome program, and I will hopefully be going there this next semester! This is exactly the type of program I was looking for to help me improve my chances for next year! Thanks for mentioning NWP!

One of the reasons that NWP is fantastic is that it is only a semester long. After the semester is over, you attend classes at a local college (What all of us NWP kids are doing right now). Worst come to worse, you already have college credit and can get right back into the swing of college life (as you are only behind one semester). Likewise, you can re-apply to USAFA as many times as you want! As long as you continue to meet the application requirements (Under 23 or something like that with no dependents).

For the Falcon Foundation, the only 'requirement', so to speak, to get your case reviewed for this is to be Pilot Qualified (medically, that is). Everyone automatically gets reviewed for this program upon receipt of the QNV-TWE (assuming that they are Pilot Qualified). It's not necessarily a SAT thing only too--I got Foundation because I had a good WCS (1930 SAT at the time), but my CFA scores were average. A good way to look at it is this: If your application is fantastic, except in one individual area, you are a likely candidate for Foundation.

If anyone has any other questions, feel free to send me a PM or an e-mail
