I had given up on my chances for USNA due to failing DODMERB and not receiving a nomination. However, both of those have very recently been overturned and I am now trying to figure out what to do. I know the deadline is Jan 31. Is it too late to be considered? I can get most of my required essays/recommendations in the next day or two, but have yet to have my BGO interview. Can the interview be done after the deadline?

I'm really hoping you can get this fixed.

Not entirely sure about the BGO interview with regards to the deadline, but I would advise to reach out AS SOON AS YOU CAN.

Again, I really hope you can get this sorted out. Don't ever give up in the future!

Hope it all works out!

Get off this phone and call and email (if he doesn't answer) immediately. Ask if it can be done this week. Remember at this point you are asking for them to get things done very quickly to help you, so if it means missing class or something along those then you need to be prepared for that. Get your essays done today, sit on them overnight, have someone review them the next day, make corrections and submit. Be very clear with your teachers that your deadline is within days for those recommendations. Good luck.

Agreed with rt10. Call, ask questions, take action and charge forward despite your circumstances. My ds has a dq medical condition but he did EVERYTHING in spite of that because it is his dream...you can do it!

I can't seem to find the announcement that specified what parts of the application were exempt from the January 31st deadline, but I believe it is the BGO interview and DODMERB completion. With that being said, your BGO may not want to schedule an interview until your application is 100% complete...you essentially have 5 days to complete it and I could completely understand a BGO holding back until then (I would feel exactly the same way...I don't want to waste a few hours conducting an interview and an writing up a report if it ends up you can't meet the deadline). When you contact your BGO, I would lay out a plan that shows how you will complete the application -- it sounds like you have at least 50% done, so you aren't starting from scratch, BUT, five days isn't much time (though, attainable) if you have to coordinate recommendations, etc.

Agree with '08. Doing an interview takes at least 2 hours of my time (interview and write-up). At this point, I'm only going to do it in the final week if the candidate has the package complete. Too often, I've reshuffled my schedule in the last week of January only to see the candidate not finish his/her part of the process -- i.e., not completing the application by the deadline.

I had a candidate contact me this week asking for an interview. The person has 3 items still outstanding and has submitted nothing since October. I told the candidate that, if 100% of the packet was complete by Sunday, I'd do the interview that day or next week.

For those -- not just the OP -- contacting their BGOs in a panic this week, be prepared to answer the following question: "Where were you in June, July, August, September, October, November, December and January 1-26?"

Absent a REALLY good explanation, the fact that you have waited until the last three days to complete your packet speaks to your motivation, especially when you tell me you managed to complete your applications to X civilian school(s). Must admit that candidates who are just now sending in their final document(s) are already two strikes down in my book. Not saying there aren't some legitimate explanations . . . but someone who is highly motivated should be done by now.

what are your numbers? ACT/SAT? Class standing? Did you do the CFA? How competitive are you? my guess is that the BGO will try to accommodate you, but I think if your application is very competitive that he/she is more likely to go out of the way to do so. I would submit names of your teachers for the online assessment, and talk to each teacher asking to submit today. If CFA isn't done, you need to do it and have score submitted now.

If you are motivated, and can motivate those who you are relying upon, I think it is doable.
