Transferring from U.S. Naval Academy to NROTC

When I said "ridiculed here" I meant at the Academy (or at least the people I'm around here), not here on the forum. But it's fine though as I realize it's not the most popular thing to do or say.
I appreciate all input and am going to re-evaluate my situation and what I want to do. Not sure if the "why I applied" is still in me anymore. Again I'm not making any brash decisions soon so I'll have a while to think, consult, etc. Going to apply to some schools and scholarships, see what happens and decide after next semester.
EagleDriver that was very helpful, thank you

Many many of your classmates will have this discussion. Most of your classmates will think it, at some point.

Nothing wrong with having the dicussion. Nothing wrong with leaving, if you're leaving for the right reasons and with a clear head.

I know I'm stating the obvious, but you won't be able to wait until the end of next semester to make your decision, although you'll get close. You'll almost certainly need to make a final decision sometime in April as you'll need to commit to another school (if that's your decision) during April.

I guess I still don't understand. If the "why I applied" is not in you anymore then I don't see why the "I'd love to do ROTC" is still there. But what you share is totally up to you.

3sacrowd...To go along with the others that have posted on exploring why you're leaving…. have you talked to the Chaplain at USNA? I'm not talking about having them help you through the process of moving from USNA to NROTC but they are trained to help you with the WHY you're making the decision you're making. Whether you're religious or not they are there to help you and are trained specifically to help you through things so use them as a resource. This is not a small decision you're making in my opinion and I'm sure you're not the first person to talk to the Chaplain about exactly the why you're leaving/feeling.

Once you have a clear understanding (not that you don't already), with the help of a professional, it can help you on how to proceed.

Use the skills that got you to the USNA and through the first year to your advantage.

Good luck,
Will

I haven't spoken to really anybody about it because I'm not sure but I am definitely going to probably speak to one, just not right now because it's still pretty early.
That was a poor choice of words on my part in regarding the "why I applied." I'm sorry I'm not supplying a bunch of info, but unlike the Chaplain's office, stuff here is not in confidentiality and I know people who go here still frequent the forum and didn't want my thoughts backfiring me. I can PM someone if they want to know more.
But yea I'll have to decide then once stuff gets back. I'll probably speak to a Chaplain sometime in the next couple of months. I'm going to use Thanksgiving and Christmas time for a lot of self evaluation, consulting, applying, and consideration. Don't wanna just up and leave the Naval Academy you know. I guess I was initially trying to find out if anybody's heard of anyone in the last couple of years who went from USNA to NROTC, but I turned it more different than that I guess

3sacrowd: If indeed what you discuss with the Chaplain remains 100% confidential, then I'd start a dialogue with him/her immediately. There is no downside to getting a rational 2nd opinion, or more importantly, to being helped to formulate your thoughts in a rational and organized way. When people dwell on things privately, they can easily "lose sight of the forest thorugh the trees", and get off track in regard to perspective and rationality.

Kinnem, I don't agree about the need for OP to apply to and decide on another college by April. This isn't a decision that can be hurried for expediency. The importance of losing a year vs. making the right decision about the Academy is insignificant. If OP ends up needing to take a gap year in which to apply to other colleges, so be it. Bad decisions (in hindsight) often result from rushing a judgment, in my experience.

Even though that info is for Plebe Summer only, it pointed me the right link for current separation and more threads about it too and a lot of info that I didn't yet know.

I agree it shouldn't be rushed. Nevertheless OPs posts seemed to indicate he planned on at least applying to other schools presumably for next year. Just wanted to point out, if that's the case, what his real deadline is. Frankly I don't see much difference, btw, between sorting this out by end of May or sorting it out by end of April. He's the one establishing the deadlines, not I.

I'm still trying to wrap my head around the statement that ROTC is just above a 90 Day Wonder, and SA's graduate only the Elite.

I do agree with the others, stick it out the rest of the year before making a decision.

I as well disagree with that statement a lot, if that has any weight. I hate that stigma that is ingrained around here...but I'm in the minority in that view
