My DS received a TWE today in the mail from the Director of Admissions at USMA stating they are unable to offer admission to the West Point Class of 2024. This seems very early and possibly a mistake. Has anyone heard of this in mid-November?
My DS had his FFR interview at the end of October after all parts of his application were submitted and his FFR told him to expect a LOA very soon and that he was 1 of 10 classified "Admissible" candidates from our entire state for the USMA. He is medically qualified, submitted his CFA and was told he passed.

How does my son get told that he will receive an LOA and then my son receive this letter instead today? Any advice? It's going to break my heart to show him this letter when he gets home from football practice. He has wanted to go to West Point since he was 6 years old.

Stats:
SAT 1490 (750M/740V)
Class Rank 37/207 (18%)
GPA 4.33 W and 3.74 UW
11 AP classes and mostly Honors classes
Class President 9-12th
Eagle Scout
Varsity Soccer
Varsity Football (Kicker) Captain 12th
NHS
200+ hours community service
Leader of Soldier Box Project
Leader of Veteran's Day Breakfast
Excellent Letters of Rec

If I were you, I would reach out to your regional commander.

Absolutely. He will definitely reach out to his regional commander. I was just wondering if anyone else ever received a TWE in November and if they knew the reason for receiving one so early on. My son had 2/3 Nomination interviews this month and his third set for early December. So confused right now and in shock.

I would be too - his resume looks impressive.

Either a mistake - it you will find out what happened when you call his regional commander or admissions counselor.

Keep us updated here, the resume was very impressive. Wondering why the TWE

There is another thread from October 2019, 'Thin White Envelope.' In reading the thread, that applicant received a 'screen' letter for lack of portal activity, but after contacting the RC, the portal was reopened.

Yes, I have been following that thread and the letter my son received was from the Director of Admissions and not from his RC (like the post you are referring to). My son's application was 100% complete on October 25th. His FFR interview went very well on October 26th (I had to be present during it). He was told that his FFR "would eat his right arm" if he didn't gain an Appointment to West Point. I have Informed Delivery through the USPS and saw the envelope. I thought it was the promised LOA, but alas something very, very different arrived today.

I am so sorry. This will be a long night at your house. Best wishes to your son as he will no doubt prioritize calling his RC tomorrow morning. Let's hope this was an early mistake.

This is tough to see, very sorry, after hopes were raised.

One of the USNA BGOs we are close to said he learned his lesson after about a year - had some superb candidates, stellar records, BGO was sure of LOA/appointment offer and made similar comments - and TWE. He now just says “you’ve got a shot” and is careful to not be predictive in tone.

I can see if the FFR was new at the job of interviewing Candidates. This gentleman has been doing this for years.

I'm confident it's some screw up in the system. Bureaucracy at work.
I assume he's made it through DoDMERB successfully, or at least hasn't gotten a DQ and waiting on a waiver?

I get this ... and it is very sad. Knowing how my family was during this process.

It is the timing that bothers me. Why this early with what appears to be a competitive application.

He is DoDMERB Qualified. No issue there.

His FFR responded quickly and said that he didn't understand why he would have received this letter and that he would make some calls over the next few days to try and find out answers for him. He said his file looks great to him in all respects, but Admissions can see more than he can. He also said Admissions doesn't send letters by mistake so he is curious as to the reason(s) why my son received this letter.

My son would be mad if I opened his envelope.

How good was the CFA?

I hope it’s a mistake.

I had permission from him. He knew it was going to be delivered today because of Informed Delivery notification from the USPS. He thought is was going to be a LOA based on his interview.

His CFA had check marks next to every event on his FFR's print out during his interview. He said he passed.

CFA Results:
BB Throw 82ft
Pull-ups 17
Shuttle Run 8.5
Sit-ups 95
Push-ups 46
1 Mile Run 6:53 (at 8000ft elevation)

So sorry to hear about your DS. Perhaps his plans and God’s plans are not lined up at this point in his life. What looks good on paper doesn’t always translate in person.
