TWE Received

You wouldn't get a TWE because of a DODMERB DQ. Do you know if they sought a waiver? They only seek waivers for applicants they deem otherwise competitive.
Yes, you will get a TWE when the academy medical team decides to not give you a waiver for your disqualification. It is very well explained in the TWE. You are correct that only highly qualified and competitive candidates will have a medical waiver requested by admissions. That does not mean that you will get one, despite requests and submission of more information.

USNA never denies someone solely on their medical case. Admissions and medical are separate processes until you are in the waiver system, from what I've been told by my USNA admissions counselor (and USNA and DoDMERB websites).
If they can not get a waiver, then they will not receive an appointment and will subsequently receive a TWE, regardless of how phenomenal a portfolio is it. That is my understanding; an experience, especially with USNA.

DODMERB makes it quite clear that an applicant will not be denied appointment solely because of DODMERB's DQ assessment if the applicant is otherwise considered competitive for appointment. I understand that to mean from Mr. Mullen's posts that if Admissions desires to appoint an candidate, they do not defer to DODMERB's DQ assessment. SAs may decide not seek or grant a waiver for their own reasons, including competitiveness or the nature of the DQ is incompatible with force requirements. SAs waiver decisions are independent of DODMERB.

That's right, I don't think they're talking about DoDMERB's side of things. It's up to the waiver authority, in this case - USNA.

Agree. My comment was because I understood the original post suggested a DODMERB disqualification was the reason for the TWE. I was just clarifying that wouldn't be the reason. The reason would be some other reason underlying why a waiver was either not sought or granted, a decision made by the SA. My DS is a re-applicant this year and last year he had both situations, i.e., 1 SA did not seek a waiver and another sought but did not grant a waiver. We are currently in the same situation again this year where one SA has communicated it is seeking a waiver but no decision yet and the other has not yet decided to seek one.

I know this does not pertain to the DODMERB discussion, but will you get a TWE in the mail before it shows up on the portal? Or does it vary from person to person?

Gotcha. I was in a similar boat last year - pending waiver while CPR to USNA and received a TWE before any action on a waiver. This year applying from college, an LOA still waiting on a waiver. Not sure if seeking a waiver necessarily means an appointment if you get the waiver but last year I was told by the medical rep at USNA that you're only in the waiver process once you get a conditional offer... so who knows.

From my experience last year, it'll just be an email with a corresponding portal update. Nothing in the mail.

So would an appointment work the same way if no call from your MOC? Email about a portal update with an offer of appointment and BFE in the mail? Sorry for the questions.

Although I don't have any experience with that (hopefully I will soon), it is my understanding that if your MOC does not contact you, you will get an email about a portal update. Then, if you accept the offer, you will get a BFE in the mail. This is my understanding based on what people say in this forum. Happy to help.

My DS just received this afternoon a Conditional Offer of Acceptance (LOA) with the medical waiver the only item. I presume that is the same situation you are in. Crossing fingers for all those still waiting.

Congrats to him! Yes exact same situation. FYI I've been waiting since late February for a waiver decision, it's excruciating being so close but not quite a full offer. Hopefully they get waivers through in the next two weeks or so.

Just to ask, I know right here is not the best place to ask this. But I'm failing a class at the moment in my Junior Year second semester (AP Latin), will this eliminate my chances of being able to get into USNA? I really feel hopeless and don't think I can get it up....what do I do?

I wouldn't say it would eliminate your chances. I'm not an admissions officer so I can't say for sure. It would definitely be a pitfall in your application but if you can give a reason for it and explain why you failed and what you learned from it, you might help your case. I think with the whole COVID-19 situation, admissions might be more forgiving. But then again, the ability to triumph in adversity is definitely a quality they look for.

Bottom line, are you still in? Absolutely. But it's not a great spot to be in, so be ready to explain yourself if you are otherwise a strong candidate.

I mean the class is not very important for an academy education. If I were to be failing a more "essential" class, like Precalculus, or Physics, then I would be even more worried.

Did your status change on your portal or was it still CPR? Seems a little wrong getting the letter with the portal saying its pending
Yes my status in my portal changed. I received an email (the twe) saying i was turned down by USNA, and then I logged into my portal and my status was changed

Failing a class is never a good thing. You might ask if you can drop down to the non-AP level, since you aren't able to handle the course at an AP level. Better to do that and get a passing grade.
