Good morning,

I am done with my ROTC application, and am currently Board Ready. I had my interview already, but it was with an ROO instead of a PMS. I've read that it is still acceptable, although not as preferred by the board, considering it's made up of PMS's, and they take the opinion of a peer higher in consideration. Also, the interview took roughly around 20 minutes, which I feel was pretty short, although I feel very happy with how the interview went. Any input on how much this might harm an application before the board would be appreciated.

If it went well, move on. A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.

When you say, “I read…”, was it a primary source? Was it a post on an anonymous online forum? Was it from someone who knows someone who knows someone? Unless you got that from an authoritative source, consider it “hear-say.”

It was a book from Robert Kirkland, "The Insider's Guide to the Army ROTC Scholarship...." Thank you, though!

You should try to reach out to some of the ROOs who hang out on these forums for more knowledgeable input. I suspect @clarksonarmy and @MohawkArmyROTC conduct most of their unit interviews, although I might be wrong. In any case I strongly doubt the boards are going to penalize you based on who did the interview.

The author of the book is likely implying that a PMS recommendation has alittle more weight, but a ROO recommendation is good also. If you had a good interview, then that is all that matters. Don't go chasing after tiny little "improvements" to your application that likely won't matter anyway. You had a good interview. Focus on that and move on to the next step or start working on plan B,C, etc.

And there’s always the possibility that the second interview won’t go as well — but now with “extra weight.” As others have advised: Move on.
