Updating Activities and Awards

When my son submitted his activities and awards information to the academy he did not include the academic awards that he had earned. These awards are his high school's academic achievement award, which he earned his Freshman, Sophomore and Junior years for having a GPA above 3.85, an academic letter from his high school for having a GPA of 3.6 or higher after his junior year, and being an AP Scholar for scoring a 3 or higher on at least 3 AP exams. His transcripts will show that he did well academically. Would it be worthwhile for him to update his activities and awards information to add these awards or are they too generic?

Thanks.

At the least, I would probably include the AP Scholar, since USMA does not look at AP scores.

The way I see it though, there shouldn't be any harm in adding the awards, even if they are generic. They might even help add points to the candidate's WCS, so I can only see your son benefiting from it.

Mail a new resume to West Point will ALL achievements, they don't mind gloating. They WANT to see everything.

Wait, so can I simply mail a new copy of my resume to West Point? How would I have it verified?

Chocolate - send in any new activities/honors/awards achieved since submitting CAR.

No need to mail in a new resume for updates.
Simply send in any updates via the 'Contact Us' link on your portal.

Just wondering, does the PDF of the CAR ever update from the original? I've sent previous updates through e-mail before but I had never received any confirmation or anything, and I wasn't sure if the PDF would reflect new changes. I sent a new e-mail with some updates recently but this time I received an e-mail saying I needed to have it verified. Could it be possible that those earlier ones never went through?

The best way to make sure is to call the Admissions office and confirm that all your updates were received.

High Interest level is Good Too!

Just an aside - At the very least, updating your file with new information accomplishes a couple of things. It shows your continued high level of interest, and it puts eyeballs on your file. Both are good, even if the updated information isn't earth-shaking.

I'd just like to clarify a bit on how to update the file - this is the guidance we were given from our Regional Commander. I'd recommend following this, otherwise, at least in our region, the information will not be added to the file:

If a candidate has not yet submitted their "CAR" then obviously the updates just go into that. If they have an athletic or extracurricular update, and they have already sent in the CAR, then we need the update verified. Any appropriate school or club official can verify it by sending it to the RC or his team via email. For instance, a coach or counselor can verify varsity letter or captain; the NHS advisor or counselor can verify NHS participation or president; Scoutmaster can verify Eagle or SPL. If the candidate emails us with that info, we will turn right around and ask for verification.
