WOW! A thread that should be addressing thoughts and prayers for the pilot who lost his life and accolades to both for directing their aircraft to areas so no civilian casualties occurred has now become an argumentative thread.
Both pilots should be commended on their ability to put the aircraft "down" in a safe area; one who managed to do this an eject safely seconds before the crash, and one who was not so fortunate, but maintained "service over self" to the end.
In the upcoming months, the investigation will reveal the true causes of the crashes, and the final report that will be available publicly will only touch the surface of the true cause. I have had the opportunity in the past to be part of a military AIB; luckily one in which no life was lost, only a very expensive aircraft. I learned a lot about the process, the people, the aircraft, as well as the Freedom of Information Act. Unfortunately, the investigations seem to always start out as "witch hunts" by the safety investigation to blame one or more individuals. I can only hope that both pilots are cleared as well as the maintenance folks who try their best to maintain aging aircraft with the limited funds available.
