USAFA Waiting Thread C/O 2027

I never even thought emailing admissions was allowed - I can't even figure why I'd think that. We are still waiting for my son to hear. He's under waiver review according to DoDMERB but medically DQ on the portal (ADD no med/no accommodations). Nothing has changed on either site since his physical back in September. He got the nom from our Congressman in December and seems, on paper, to be a competitive candidate. We are just itchy to find out where he is headed in the fall. He emailed his ALO and nothing definitive, just that the academy is making decisions and hopefully he'd hear soon. We are from NJ.
Not sure if it was your intent to email admissions yourself? Respectfully, I think most would advise to leave this to your son/daughter.

Hi

Uh-oh. I hope I haven't hurt his chances by reaching out with my own questions... :(

Probably not. I suppose it would depend on the nature of the questions, or if they thought it was something in particular that the candidate him/her self should be asking.
I encouraged DS to reachout himself with emails/calls to the Academies, Congressional Committees, Etc... And left it entirely to him.
I came to these forums for questions I myself needed help/guidance with, which has been invaluable.
Over his three application cycles he got better with these communications. And as he progressed, he was on a first name basis with our Congressman's SA Committee coordinator, and quite familiar with Admissions officers at USAFA, USMA and USCGA.
Whether or not that has had any bearing with his 2 offers of appointments, (and still in the running for USCGA), I can't say with certainty. But it's likely the case, and certainly didn't hurt.
Hang in there! I KNOW the waiting is tough. Everything I've read/experienced to date points to USAFA being behind this year. DODMERB system outage has obviously slowed things down. (Last years delays were with USAFA's new Admissions IT program coming online).
My best guess, (not a terribly educated guess), would be that in the nieghborhood of 600 +/- appointments are remaining to be offered, as they build the class. Best Wishes to all who are playing the waiting game!

I like your way of thinking, and so hoping this is the case--this process has for sure taught both my DS and myself how to practice patience. We are still hopeful, but as each week passes by and without a notification we are slowly accepting that he will take his first choice college with either the 4 year Army ROTC or 4 year AFROTC scholarships; and start the process all over (with the exception of DoDMERB) in July.

Keeping our fingers (and toes) crossed!!

I'm hopeful for you too! Keep the faith! If it doesn't go your way, it's not a failure, just a learning experience. Your plan B sounds Great!!! You could reapply next year, with possibly an additional nomination from ROTC. The Academies LOVE re-applicants. Or perhaps it turns out that Plan "B" was really plan "A", and you guys have figured that out by this time next year. Meanwhile Hoping we see you in Colorado Springs!

Does anyone know what day the waves of appointments usually come out? Some have told me Thursday and some have said Friday. Or is it not any particular day?

I am sorry if this was asked, will the Academy post a rejection to the portal if you are denied?

This probably isn't much help, but my son was first notified by mail. A fancy certificate/letter from our Senator showed up in usmail. Few days later his portal updated.
I actually REALLY enjoyed the "old school" notification. The envelope was thick. BFE.🤣
So, point is, it seems as if they give your appointment source a time window to announce. (Our Representatives Service Academy Committee coordinator called him about his West Point Appointment first), portal updated 2 days later on a Wednesday).
But plenty of kids find out in portal first.
Whereas there may actually be a day "waves come out", for practical purposes, YOUR results may vary.
The waiting is out of your control. I suggest the 'Serenity Prayer' ... it's what got me through 3 years of this😉 I'm hoping to hear about all your appointments soon!

Yes, portal will update with "non-selected". I believe this happened prior to the actual snail mail TWE that did indeed come, saying the same. As with all of this, 'your results may vary'.

My DD ALO received an email late last night stating “1). selections. All regular candidate selections are complete! Appointee kits should be available to your appointees.”
He said he doesn’t really know what regular candidate selections means and most of his mentees don’t show appointed or denials so he really isn’t sure exactly what that means. Definitely a stressful process! 🤣

They will post it to your portal, it will say you have a decision and when you click on the envelope it could either be an appointment, twe (denial), prep offer, or falcon offer. You should also get an email informing you that you have an update in your portal, this generally comes out shortly after it posts in your portal. You will not get anything in the US postal mail if you do not get an appointment until well after your portal is updated, if at all.

Good luck!

How did you learn that the ALO received this email? Did he/she contact your daughter, or had she emailed the ALO for an update, and this was the response? Also, which ALO? The mentor or the interviewer?

If a candidate's nomination source was Presidential, don't expect anything other than the portal change or the BFE.

The mentor and he was just updating her on what he had received.
